Galas FAQs

  • How do I know which galas are available for my swimmer to enter?

The coaches are responsible for selecting appropriate galas for our swimmers to compete in throughout the course of the year. The details of upcoming galas are availabe in the Calendar section of TeamUnify and will also be announced on the TeamUnify Socia Feed.

  • How do I enter my swimmer into a gala?

All our gala entries are now done via TeamUnify (either using the OnDeck mobile app or by logging into GASC TeamUnify website). Coaches will typically make recommendations to swimmers/parents regarding which events are appropriate however parents are responsible for selecting the events in TeamUnify. Once the internal deadline is passed the Gala Secretary will export all the GASC entries and submit them to the organisation who are hosting the gala.

  • Do I have to pay for my swimmer to enter?

Most galas charge an entry fees, typically between £6-£9 per event however the exact fee will be avaiable in the Meet Information at time of entry. Fees are paid by the club upon submission of entries and parents will be invoiced after the gala. Unfortunately entry fees are not refundable after submission therefore fees are still due if swimmers do not attend (unless a medical document can be provided). There are few exceptions where entry fees are not charged, these are GASC Club Championships, Summer-Zone Challenge and Forth Valley Junior League.

  • What time should my swimmer arrive at?

Warm-up and session times vary between galas but swimmers should typically arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the warm-up. Warm-up and session times are generally available in the Meet Information which is available at time of entry and this information will be posted on the TeamUnify social feed during the week before the gala.

  • What should my swimmer bring?

- appropriate swimwear
- goggles
- swim cap (GASC if possible)
- 2x towels
- hoodie/sweatshirt/t-shirt to wear on poolside
- drink (water or diluating juice, no fizzy drinks)
- snacks (no chocolate)

  • Who is looking after my swimmer during the sessions and breaks?

Depending on how many GASC swimmers are attending the gala, there will be either a coach or team manager from the club (in some cases both or multiple). They will be responsible for the swimmers whilst on poolside however they will NOT be responsible for supervising the swimmers during breaks between sessions.

  • Is my swimmer allowed to leave poolside during the sessions?

Swimmers should not leave the poolside during sessions as it compromises the coach/team manager's ability to be able to supervise all the swimmers during the sessions. When swimmers do leave the pooolside (between session and in case of emergency) they MUST wear appropriate footwear and a top.

  • How can I find out my swimmer's results?

Most galas will publish live results accessible via a mobile app called Meet Mobile. There is an annual subscription cost of £8.99 to view live results however heat-sheets are typically available without an annual subscription. Gala organisers typically publish the official results within a week and these results are uploaded to TeamUnify which allows parents and swimmers to view their times.
