The Hailsham Swimming Club Committee 

The Hailsham Swimming Club Committee work together to ensure the smooth day to day running of the club. 

Elected committee members represent Hailsham Swimming Club at regular committee meetings, acting as a spokesperson to address any issues, and, together with the other members of the committee, work to find solutions and improvements to day-to-day running of the club. Committee members may also be asked to represent the club externally at events or meeting when required.

Our our 2025/26 committee members were elected on 24th April 2025. These members will serve in the roles detailed until the end of April 2026 and the election of a new committee at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Members can also be co-opted onto the committee following the AGM, subject to a committee vote. 


Meet the Hailsham Swimming Club Committee for 2025 / 2026

There are currently ten members on the Hailsham Swimming Club committee. Elected committee members have different roles and responsbilities within the committee. The Chair, Vice Chair, Treasuer, and Membership Secretary are known as the 'Executive Officers' 


Executive Officers

The Club Chair is responsible for ensuring that the Club is well managed and run efficiently. They set the agenda for and chair all meetings of the club committee (including AGMs) and guides members through the agenda, as well as representing the Club at other meetings. The Chairperson also has the following responsibilies: 

  • Providing leadership and support/guidance to club members where necessary; 
  • Overseeing committee decisions and holding the casting vote; 
  • Acting as signatory on club cheques;
  • Authorizing expenditure;
  • Leading the Disciplinary Committee;
  • Preparing/presenting the annual report for the AGM;
  • Managing the club's relationships with Bede's and other Leisure Centres in the area; and
  • Ensuring that adequate pool time is made available for training sessions, including securing additional facilities when required. 

Vice Club Chair

The vice Chair supports the Club Chair in ensuring that the Club is well managed and run efficently. Delegated responsibility is given to the Vice-Chair to assist in delivering the Chair's duties previously listed.


Club Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for collating a record of accounts and monitoring the finances of the Club to ensure that the Club remains solvent.


Club Membership Secretary

The Membership Secretary acts as principal administrative officer for the club and is the first point of contact for general correspondence. They assist the Chairperson in the preparation of the annual report, acts as a signatory on cheques, and is the main point of contact for regional and national ASA matters. They also support new members of the Club and maintains up to date records of club membership in accordance with ASA regulations.


Other committee members

The Club president,  leads and motivates the club, ensuring that club members feel valuable, inspired, and connected to each other. The Club President will take the role of the Chairperson / Vice Chairperson in their absence.


The Gala Secretary is responsible for collating and submiting gala entries for all external meets, along with the running of our own galas, competitions, awards and trophies for our Club Championships. 


The Welfare Officer ensures that the club operates a safe, effective and child friendly environment that promotes good practice in line with the Club’s Child Protection policy. The Welfare Officer is the first point of contact for children, parents and adults within the club who have a child safeguarding or welfare concern.


The fundraising and sponsorship officer provides a central point for the club to lead, and develop opportunities for funding, grants and sponsorship into the club. This includes the preparation and submission of funding bids to organisations, working with other organisations to develop joint bids and ensuring the profile of the club is maintained.

The Minutes Secretary takes minutes at the committee meetings and the yearly AGM. Typed minutes/actions are circulated amongst the other members of the committee via e-mail.
