Currell: We'll pick a squad to finish higher

Ryan Currell

H.C. Ryan Currell says he will select a team capable of winning the Chiltern League as the Codebreakers aim to finish even higher up the Chiltern League table this year.

The Head Coach will have his experienced swimmers from last year back in contention having taken the club all the way to the top division Final.

He will also be selecting his ever-strengthening Academy and Junior Squad swimmers after successfully reaching the Finals on their debut at the Bedfordshire County Championships.

On getting his Squad in the right frame of mind for the first round of the Chiltern’s, Currell said: “Before I arrived, the club was always rock bottom in the Chiltern League. On my first year we finished 7th out of 14 Swimming Clubs. And last year [my second year] we made it to the Final and finished 5th. Last year was special for me and for the whole club because it changed everybody’s mindset”.

“We have the opportunity to [make improvements] but we will select a Squad capable of winning the league and one which will go into the League with the right mentality”.

"This is why [for this First Round], I'm keep my options available and selecting a safe and conservative squad".

“Our rivals are good clubs, especially Bourne End, Flitwick Dolphins and Linslade Crusaders, they’ll fancy they can win the League, and why not? Linslade Crusaders have won the title twice in 5 seasons and perform solid. Flitwick Dolphins has a breadth of young county and regional standard swimmers. And Bourne End, the Chiltern League 2022/23 season winners, they're true underdogs because last year, even though we had to work so hard to beat them in Round 2, they still came 3rd. We’ll respect them and prepare accordingly”.
