Must win Round 2 in the Chiltern League for the Codebreakers

That was the talk at The Bletchley Leisure Centre on Tuesday as H.C. Ryan 'pooled' questions from the team ahead of the Club's trip to Aqua Vale on Saturday.

Having come 3rd in the first Round in the Chiltern League – against the likes of Bourne End, Witney & District and Aylesbury & District – the Codebreakers head to Round 2 chasing for more points in their quest to catch Witney & District who sit 7 points above them in overall 3rd place. The Codebreakers currently sit 4th place out of 13 clubs overall.

"We know every race is important, this one is because it’s the next one, but it’s not a must win, it's a battle to stay on top,” Currell said.

“However, we do recognise the importance of the 2nd Round and the swimmers are on board with that. It’s the penultimate round for everyone - and want to reach the Final once again.

“Clearly, it’s important we can take something from this Round, it can give us some real belief and confidence.

“It’s a boring answer but we’re just concentrating on this Round. It could put us in a good position going into the Final. It is a big week.”

Asked if he had set any targets on the Final round ahead, Currell replied: “We don’t have a target – we want to try and win them all and finishing 3rd or better overall would be great – but we know how difficult it is to gain points in the Chiltern League. Every swimming club will be upping their stakes for this second round. It's only going to get harder.

“But we know if we don’t perform, we’ll struggle to get points. This is why we cannot afford to have any dropouts and let downs".

“We are putting the pressure on but it’s not like we’re panicking – we recognise the importance of this second round. We’re just trying to find the sweet spot… however the swimmers have responded well to dealing with pressurised swims.”
