What does my swimmer need?
Swimmers should bring a small bag/drawstring bag poolside. They will need:
A towel for poolside to keep them dry between races. (plus a separate one to keep in their main bag for after)
- Flip flops or easy poolside shoes
- Swim hat (and spare!)
- Goggles (and spare!)
- Club T-shirt or plain black t-shirt to wear poolside and to wear whilst waiting for the swim
- A zippy or hoody to wear if they get cold easily between races.
- Swimmers can bring a small folding camping chair/stool to sit on or a towel to sit on.
- Swimmers are not allowed mobile phones/cameras poolside. If caught they may be omitted from the meet.
Food & Drinks:
Your child will need enough food for the day. A meal e.g. pasta dish if they are staying for two sessions in one day and plenty of snacks to keep them going (they will be starving!) - some suggestions are fruit, cereal bars, popcorn, fruit bread, rice cake, jelly. Please avoid chocolate and fizzy drinks as these raise sugar levels very high with a big drop just before a swim! Lots of fluid like squash/water is needed as the humidity really does get to a swimmer.
If your child is swimming in more than one session, you will need to look after your child during the break between sessions – this then enables our volunteers to get a well-earned break themselves!
Swim Shop: A Swim Shop may be present on both days by the main entrance to the leisure centre.
Mobile Phones PLEASE NOTE:- Mobile phone use and all photography is banned in the changing areas Property of Neither the City of Milton Keynes Swim Club nor Bletchley Leisure Centre can be held Swimmers & responsible for loss or damage to spectators’ or competitors’ property. Competitors are advised to Spectators use the lockers in the changing room (£1 coin needed which is refundable). The changing rooms are a public area. Large swim bags will not be permitted on the poolside.
After my child has raced:
It’s important that you say well done and praise your child, regardless of how the swim went. Please do not coach or tell them what they can improve on, even if you are a swimmer yourself. Leave this to the coaches, they’ll give the feedback where needed – parents should enjoy the praising opportunity.
Swimmers will swim in heats according to their entry time – meaning they may be in a heat with a child that is older, bigger, or younger than them – this doesn’t mean they are “racing older swimmers” – it means they are seeded according to time. The results are published by age at the end of the event.
Good luck everyone, enjoy the experience.
Regards
