Academy Squad

The Academy squads is aimed at younger swimmers to bridge the gap between when they left the learn to swim programmes at their swim schools, and competitive club swimming. Children will be aged between 6 and 8 years old and in Stage 7 or above of their learn to swim programme at their Swim School.

The aim is to give younger swimmers more experience in the pool, with lots of emphasis on technique and developing skills in all four strokes, tumble turns and racing dives while at the same time having lots of fun.

Consisting of 6 Club Award Stages to achieve, it introduces and helps swimmers and parents see them progress up the Pathway Programme.

Academy Squad Stage 1

Introduction to the ‘FUNdamentals’ having left swim school.

 

Academy Squad Stage 2

Swimmers complete all the ‘FUNdamentals’ having left swim school. 

 

Academy Squad Stage 3

Swimmers develop their drills and underwater skills.

 

Academy Squad Stage 4

Swimmers further advance their drills and underwater skills.

 

Academy Squad Stage 5

Swimmers increase distance work and Junior Squad Development.

Swimmers increase distance work more and Junior Squad Development.

 

 

Junior Squad

Junior Transition 1

Athletes are usually aged between 9 and 12 and preparing to move to Junior County Development or Junior County Age Group squads. Swimmers will going over the rules and refine their technique with added distance swims, dives and turns. They will have competed in a range of events during the season and will be able to complete training test sets.

 

Junior Transition 2

An extension to Junior Transition 1, athletes are usually aged between 9 and 12 and preparing to move to Junior County Development or Junior County Age Group squads. Swimmers will going over the rules and refine their technique with added distance swims, dives and turns. They will have competed in a range of events during the season and will be able to complete training test sets.

 

Junior County Development 1

Athletes are usually aged 12 and under and aiming to qualify for the ASA Age Group County Championships. In order to qualify for the County Championships, athletes will have competed at a number of Open Meets in a given combination of events. They should also be able to complete a training test set.

 

Junior County Development 2

Athletes are usually aged 12 and under and aiming to qualify for an increased number of events at the ASA Age Group County Championships. In order to qualify for the County Championships, athletes will have competed at a number of Open Meets in a given combination of events. They should also be able to complete a training test set

 

Junior County Age Group

Athletes are usually aged 12 and under and aiming to qualify for the ASA Regional Age Group Championships. Athletes will have competed at the previous season's County ASA Age Group Championships in a given combination of events. They should also be able to complete a training test set.

 

 

Senior Squad

Senior County Development

Athletes are usually aged 12-14 years and aiming to qualify for the ASA Age Group County Championships. In order to qualify for the County Championships, athletes will have competed at a number of Open Meets in a given combination of events.

 

Senior County Age Group

Athletes are usually aged 12 -14 years and aiming to qualify for the ASA Regional Age Group Championships. Athletes will have competed at the previous season's County ASA Age Group Championships in a given combination of events. 

 

Regional Age Group

Athletes are usually aged 12 and over and will have qualified to compete in the ASA Regional Age Group Championships in a combination of events.

 

 

Masters Squad

Masters Competitive

Aimed at swimmers aged over 19 who still like to train hard and compete up to a National Masters level but need to fit their training around a busy life schedule. Training targets the development and maintenance of stamina and strength. Swimmers will also be asked to represent BDSC in certain inter-club galas.
