Club Champs November 2019

Report by Holly Wiseman Lee & Jamie Brady (National Development Squad)

As a swimmer myself, I never get to race my friends (especially boys) as at any other meet events are swam in genders. This gala is a perfect opportunity to race with friends, get competitive and have fun, plus race strokes that aren't normally your best. You never know, you could surprise yourself and this gala is the best time to try and push yourself.

Another reason this gala is key to attend is that many of our younger swimmers don't attend many or even any galas. Teddington is a competitive club this is your chance to show off your skills and your hard training. Also, it’s an amazing opportunity to qualify for counties, racing all your friends. At this year’s Club Champs many of our swimmers made the qualifying cuts for Middlesex counties (some in races they never thought they would!)

Finally, the last reason I would really suggest this gala to any new swimmer is that there isn't any pressure and you shouldn't feel really nervous (but maybe a little). Just try your best and see how fast you can swim, so you know what racing feels like! (for future events)

Have fun and spend time with your friends, who you can't normally speak to (as your hard at training). So, for any unsure parents debating whether club champs, is a good decision for your child, it really is! And for any unsure swimmers who think racing will be too scary, it's fine!! (seriously)

I hope to see you at our next club champs
