Boldmere Swimming & Water Polo Club are delighted to announce that Trevor Down has agreed to be appointed to the position of Water Polo Head Coach, and he will commence his work with all players in the coming weeks adding his skills to our existing Water Polo coaching team.
Trev has provided us with a short introduction to himself below, and I am sure that we will all warmly welcome and support him into this role.
My name is Trev Down, and I have been in the Royal Air Force for 40 years, undertaking roles such as Physical Training Instructor and Physical Education Officer. I have swum and played polo for the majority of my life, with my biggest achievement being swimming the English Channel in 1992. I had the fortune of serving as Head Coach at Deepings Swimming Club after a stint as Squad Coach at City of Peterborough Swimming Club.
I have been coaching the water polo element of Wellington Swimming Club for the last 10 years and have also coached at the Regional level (West Midlands) and at the National level as an Assistant Coach for the recent U19 (2005) boys' team for four years, guiding them from the National Academy to the build-up for their European Qualifiers. During this tenure,
I attended two EU Nations Tournaments in the Czech Republic, one as an Assistant and another as Head Coach. I have recently become an Institute of Swimming Tutor (Water Polo Level 1 - Assistant Coach and Level 2 Coach).
I look forward to working with you all as a Water Polo Head Coach for Boldmere Swimming and Water Polo Club.
It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of ex-Boldmere swimming club chair and life member of the club, Phil Littler. He passed away peacefully on Saturday 25th January, aged 75.
Husband to Diane and Father to Chris, Phil was a devoted volunteer to Boldmere swimming club for over a decade, throughout the 2000s. He supported the club in many roles through the years; records secretary, press officer, meet organiser and club chair 2010-2012.
His influence runs deep within Boldmere swimming club with him founding the club’s PB charts, the Boldmere JIM and Boldmere Water Carnival.

| Boldmere SC is one of the longest established swimming clubs in the Midlands, with the largest number of active members of any sports club in the UK's second city. Currently we have over 500 members attending 17 sessions at 8 venues, with more than 150 regularly taking part in competitive swimming and water polo events. The club was formed in the 19th century by a group of enthusiasts who swam regularly in the pools of Sutton Park (on the north eastern edge of the Birmingham conurbation) taking its name from the nearby village of Boldmere which today is one of several residential areas that make up the historic Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. Boldmere SC is currently one of the most successful competitive sports clubs in the Midlands, reaching the finals of the Arena National Swimming League in every year since 2009 - where its swimmers have competed successfully against other leading English swimming clubs and their Team GB swimming stars. | Tweets by @swimboldmere |
