SSC - Major Oak Meet 2025 - by David Swales
The weekend of 15th & 16th November saw Sutton Swimming Club (SSC) take 63 swimmers to compete at the Major Oak swim meet at Water Meadows leisure centre organised and hosted by Mansfield Swimming Club.
SSC targeted this meet and entered swimmers from all ability levels, beginners through to advanced, with the 63 swimmers taking part in 335 races between them over the two days. With swimmers from 11 clubs from the East Midlands taking part there was plenty of competition for places and medals.
Here’s what our Head Coach Laura had to say: -
What a weekend of super swimming!! After such an amazing day yesterday, to follow it up with another cracking day today was amazing.
The one thing that stood out was the team ethic that was on display. Team Sutton really did shine bright!
Everyone supporting each other, shouting encouragement, giving a hug where needed and all just being there for each other. We were a very proud coaching team!
What about the skins?!!
Saturday it was Kayla who gave it her all in the senior girls. She was incredible. Well done Kayla.
Then on Sunday it was incredible to have 3 of our senior boys competing - Adam, Jared and Evan. I’m not going to lie; it was hard to watch. My heart was racing but all three knew exactly what they were doing and well done to Evan who won it again for the second year on the trot.
As if the weekend wasn’t busy enough SSC also had some swimmers representing Nova at their meet held at Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Nottingham.
Those swimming for Nova were Sophie & Madison Brown, Charley Butlin, Daisy Asher & Joel Harby.
What’s more is that after the recent meets SSC now have >60 swimmers with County Times!!! That’s right >60 and there is still a chance that this will increase as currently SSC are running their Club Championships 2025. Run as licensed events this gives some swimmers further chances to either gain their first time or add to the number of events they will be able to enter. What is really impressive is that we currently have 7 beginners who have gained their first County Times.
Go Snipes!
