Swim England National Summer Meet - 3 Derby Excel Swimmers are Double Gold Medalists!

Derby Excel Trustees

The Swim England National Summer Meet took place from 29th July until 3rd August. Swimmers qualified for this meet based on their ranking from times achieved in a 50m pool during the qualifying window which ran from mid March to mid May. For most events, the top 24 swimmers were invited to the Aquatics GB Next Gen meet, then the next 24 to the Swim England meet but this varied. For example only 10 swimmers were invited to the 18 years 50m freestyle, but 24 were invited in the 15-17 years category. For the full meet criteria, please see this link:

Derby Excel had 21 swimmers who successfully qualified for this end of season meet.

Jacob Pemberton won a GOLD medal in the 16 year 50m backstroke in a time of 27.87s, on the first evening of the competition. He came back the following day to win another GOLD in the 100m backstroke in 1:00.00, just 0.04s ahead of the 2nd placed swimmer, with the bronze medallist swimming a time of 1:00.05! Fine margins indeed. Jacob also won a silver in 200m individual medley. Huge congratulations Jacob.

Another Jacob having a fantastic meet was Jacob Hamblen (20), who won a GOLD in 50m breaststroke with a time of 28.44s, and another GOLD in 100m breaststroke in 1:03.98s. Excellent swims from Jacob.

Jaden Leo was our third double gold medalist. He won GOLD in the 16 years 100m butterfly, with a time of 57.95s, and the 50m freestyle in a time of 24.18s. Fantastic swims Jaden.

Just outside the medals was James Chennels (24), who  was 4th in 100m butterfly with 55.53s.

Logan Wiggins (14) was 6th in 200m individual medley (which was swum as a combined 14/15 category), Logan was the fastest 14-year-old in the final. Very well done to him.
