Arena League R1

Our swimmers were in action in the Arena league on Saturday evening. Derby Excel are in the W Mids Premier Division, which has 24 clubs in it and the team travelled to Sandwell Aquatics centre in Smethwick for the event.

It was a close competition, with DX finishing in 3rd place on 264 points behind Nuneaton & Bedworth A who won with 286 points, just ahead of Repton B on 279 points. City of Oxford finished 4th with 243 points, with Leicester Sharks 5th on 223 points. Bramcote were 6th, Hinkley 7th and Abingdon Vale 8th. 

We achieved 8 first place finishes - Lily Freeman in the first race of the gala (200m individual medley), Connie Bunhejee (100m butterfly), Anna Tyers (100m backstroke), Georgie Pryor (100m freestyle and 100m butterfly), Female Open 4x50m freestyle and medley relays, and the Squadron relay (the last race of the night, a 8x50m freestyle race) - well done ladies! 

We had 9 second place finishes and 7 third place. Well done to everyone who took part - every point won for the team helps, what a great team effort! After this round, Derby Excel sit in 7th place in the league table.

The second round is on 8th November, and we have been drawn against Witney & District, Orion, City of Oxford, Redditch, Leicester Sharks, Long Eaton A and Solihull A. Venue Moorways.
