International selection for Repton Swimmers
INTERNATIONAL SELECTION FOR REPTON SWIMMERS
British Swimming has announced the 34-strong team selected to represent Great Britain at the 2023 European Junior Swimming Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The annual competition showcases the best up-and-coming talent in Europe. Following their recent performances at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield, Repton School pupils Hannah Bowley (Upper Sixth) and Laurie Devine (Lower Sixth) have become Repton School’s first-ever high-performance swimming athletes selected to represent their country on an international stage.
Hannah Bowley qualified by securing the 200m Breaststroke Consideration Time and will compete in the Breaststroke events. Laurie Devine qualified by achieving the 50m Freestyle Consideration Time and will compete in the Freestyle events.
In addition, Repton Club member Marija Romanovskaja will compete again for Lithuania, having been selected in 2022, where she will compete in the freestyle events. Repton distance member Oscar Bilbao, who trains with Hamilton Aquatics in Dubai, will also represent Great Britain in the breaststroke events, having had his first taste of international swimming last year at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
Repton’s Director of Swimming, Ash Morris is delighted with Repton’s first international recognition; “As an upcoming swimming programme, it is fantastic that we have three of our full-time swimmers selected to represent their country, including two of them for the first time – they should be extremely proud and enjoy the opportunity. As young swimmers, they will forever be a big part of the Repton legacy and will inspire swimmers within our programme”.
It is also a momentous occasion for our Director of Swimming Ash Morris, who will join the GB Team in Belgrade as part of the coaching team, where he will coach and support a small group of swimmers. Ash Morris joined Repton in November 2022 from Hamilton Aquatics in Dubai and we have already seen his positive impact on our swimming programme.
Repton Swimming Chair, Ian Pollock, is also delighted to Repton represented on the European stage: “Since establishing itself as a leading programme shortly after our affiliation in 2020, swimming here has gone from strength to strength. I am delighted for the swimmers and Ash as our Director of Swimming, and in particular we are so pleased to see our programme continue to accelerate at great speed. We wish Ash and all the swimmers the very best for the competition in July.”
The LEN European Junior Swimming Championships is one of the world's most prestigious swimming competitions for junior athletes. This year the championships will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 4 to 9 July 2023.
