125 Mile Charity Swimming Challenge To Celebrate Our 125 Year Anniversary

Melanie Skuse

As many of you may be aware, the Club is 125 years old this year and the committee thought it was important to commemorate the landmark. It was decided that members of the club would swim 125 kms and raise funds for Bury Hospice.

The event took place between Tuesday 12th November and Sunday 16th November and proved very successful and enjoyable for all those who took part. The target was quickly increased to 125 miles and was completed in the allotted time with many swimmers also achieving various distance badges.

As Chair of the Club, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved. A sub-committee was formed to undertake the planning and running of the event and they did a magnificent job to ensure that everything ran smoothly and successfully. A massive well done to all the swimmers and water polo players who helped us reach our goal and to the team of volunteers who counted and recorded the number of lengths.

Thank you also to everyone who has generously donated money towards our grand total of £1,095 raised for Bury Hospice.

A tremendous effort by all and we can look forward to the next 125 years with the prospect of a new pool back in our home town of Radcliffe.
