What does my swimmer need?
- Swimmers should bring a small bag/drawstring bag poolside. They will need:
- Team shirt to wear poolside and to wear whilst waiting for the swim
- A towel for poolside to keep them dry between races. (plus a separate one to keep in their main bag for after)
- Flip flops or easy poolside shoes
- Swim hat (and spare!)
- Goggles (and spare!)
- A zippy or hoody to wear if they get cold easily between races.
- Padlock for the lockers to keep their big bag and travel clothes in.
- Swimmers can bring a small folding camping chair/stool to sit on or a towel to sit on.
- Children can bring books/cards/electronics to entertain themselves between races – but this is at your risk should they lose or break them. We do not recommend the use of electronic devices on poolside and will not be held responsible for them. NB. Swimmers are not allowed mobile phones/cameras poolside. If caught they may be omitted from the meet.
Food & Drinks
Your child may need plenty of snacks to keep them going - some suggestions are fruit, cereal bars, popcorn, fruit bread, rice cakes. Please avoid chocolate and fizzy drinks as these raise sugar levels very high with a big drop just before a swim! Lots of fluid like squash/water is needed as the humidity really does get to a swimmer. Please try to avoid asking your child to come and sit with you between races, this makes the Team Managers jobs very difficult to know where everyone is and in making sure they get to their race on time.
Certificates:
Please collect your certificates at the front desk before you leave.
After my child has raced:
It’s important that you say well done and praise your child, regardless of how the swim went. Please do not coach or tell them what they can improve on, even if you are a swimmer yourself. Leave this to the coaches, they’ll give the feedback where needed – parents should enjoy the praising opportunity.
Good luck everyone, enjoy the experience. #COYCB!
