Record Breaking form at the Club Championships 1500m Event
1500m Club Championships
It was time for Poole Swimming Club's Metre-eaters to shine as the annual club championship for the 1500m took place at the familiar competition pool of Rossmore Leisure Centre on 12th December.
Seven heats were played out to the sound of upbeat music. Although the final results would be separated for males and females, the heats were swum mixed-gender, with all heats arrow-headed or as it is technically called, 'cyclically seeded'. This presented some very exciting racing and valiant battles in many of the races resulting in an impressive personal best rate and two club records.
Female Results Overview
Continuing her record-breaking form Daria K took Gold in the youngest age group beating a 22-year-old Age Group Club Record.
In the next girl's age group all 4 girls gained personal best times with Bertie B taking the win, Grace M silver, Erin M bronze, and Bea R fourth.
It was in the next double age bracket for 13/14-year-olds that saw the first sub 19 minutes by Jess H who took the win over Freya C that finished second and the ever-improving determined Tamzin earned bronze. It was another round of 100% Personal bests from Natalia, Holly, Poppy, Ellie, and Charlotte who earned the remaining places.
In the next double age group back Tilly M earned the Gold in PB pace, with Zoe X earning silver and Steffi Z taking the bronze, who also gained personal best times.
In the senior age group, Aimie took the bronze in a Season Best and Lucy the silver in a personal best.
Male Results Overview
In the male events, there were seven swimmers in the first age group bracket that all swam the event for the first time. Leo W took Gold, Mason E Silver, and Miron W Bronze, with Phillip B, Nathan D, Finlay G, and Joshua M taking the remaining places.
In the age group above Arron returning to form put in enough to take the Gold medal, a year younger Cody took the Silver medal gaining his second Age Group Club Record to gain the 'Distance Double' adding to the 800m he gained a few weeks ago. In his first 1500m, Toby W earned the bronze, with William T, Jude M, Matthew B, Jay P, and Elliot S all earning personal bests or setting their first mark in the event.

In the age group above Xavi W impressively dropped over 2 minutes off his best time to break the 18-minute mark by 15 seconds, Zack and Ollie D earned silver and bronze in their first attempt at the event, with Ollie J earning fourth and Alex M 5th impressively breaking 20 minutes too.
In the oldest Age Group, Robbie H held a cool 12 arms per length all the way through the race to earn a personal best and finish in an impressive personal best time.
The patchy training over the last couple of seasons around lockdowns should have had an impact on the fitness required for distance events, but the form is shown and the number of personal bests has been very rewarding. The next stop for this event will be at the Dorset Championships where we wish our metre eaters the best of luck in bringing home a big bag of medals.
A big thank you to the events team, officials and volunteers to make this event happen. Most of all another big well-done swimmers
