TSC Teaching Scheme / Pre-Squad

Teddington Swimming Club Teaching Scheme has a limited capacity, which provides lessons for water confident pupils from 6 years keen to progress to Competitive Club level swimming. This will generally mean they are currently attending Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 4 or equivalent classes.
Swim England/IOS qualified teachers provide:
Lessons for children rising 6 years, usually in Year 1, who as a minimum can travel from a push & glide for 10m on their front & back, plus be at ease with water showered from overhead, scoop water & wash their face and submerge to pick up objects
SE influenced programme
Multiple sessions times in the Teaching Pool Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre
Annual Registration Fee £33 plus £12.50 per half hour paid by the term
Note that Pre-squad sessions generally take place in the shallow teaching pool at Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre ( steps - 0.9m), hence why it is limited to children 9 and Under.
Class availability is dependent on age and current level
Classes are on:
Saturday and Sunday evenings from 3.50pm - 7:20pm from confident swimmers to pre club at Teddington Pools
Classes are 30 minutes
TSC do NOT offer Saturday / Sunday Morning, any weekday swimming or private( 1-2-1) classes
Streamlining & correct stroke technique are the build blocks for a competitive swimming, Hence TSC Pre Club Swim Scheme focuses on stroke skills. As we are focusing on stroke technique the majority of the classes take place in the Teaching Pool at Teddington where the Teachers/coaches can easily review and correct pupils.
Only older Pupils, 10+ are allocated the Main Pool. The Main pool places are very limited, swimmer offered the Main pool are expected to be able to swim Front crawl, Backstroke & Breaststroke but may have one or more technical issues that need to be addressed before they are invited to join TSC Development.
When a pupil can demonstrate
- front crawl kicking from the hips, with regular breathing to the side and smooth arm stroke
- backstroke kicking from the hips, good body position & straight arm recovery.
- breaststroke with a symmetrical leg kick, legal arm pull & correct timing.
- butterfly with dolphin kick and symmetrical arms
they will be invited to join TSC Development

We recommend continuing with your current learn to swim programme while waiting for a place.
If competitive swimming is NOT the goal for your child, TSC Teaching Scheme may not be the approriate programme as there is a strong focus on correct & efficient technique across the four strokes plus the competive skills.

Swim England Expected Standards
We do not have the facilities to provide swimming lessons for beginners at any age. We also do not provide lessons in water safety skills (treading water, what to do in an emergency, etc) as we do not have access to water deeper than 1.3m. There are many fantastic swim schools in the Teddington area who specialise in the early stages, water confidence, water safety and preparing swimmers' strokes so that they can eventually join our Club.
