Forth Valley Junior League

Forth Valley Junior League - Questions and Answers
Stirling Swimming Club take part in a League held by SASA East District.
Below you will find all the answers that you need. We are hoping that this raises awareness and allows you to encourage your child to participate in this League.
Who is this League Aimed at?
This League is for new swimmers in STARfish, Junior Development and Development Squad to get comfortable with competing. Your child will only move out of this League once they get too fast to swim in it.
What is the League?
The League consists of 10 clubs, with points accrued across each of the 6 heats, to determine the placings of each club at the final in December. Each of the heats are held over two sessions on the same day, with 5 clubs taking part in each session.
The aim of the gala is to give your child confidence and knowledge of swimming in a competitive environment. At first, the Gala's can be quite daunting but the Forth Valley Junior League is mostly team relays as well as short individual swims which makes the gala more relaxed and fun before going into a more formal meet.
The events consist of Individual Swims in one of 3 Age Groups (9 & Under, 11 & Under and Open) in 25m or 50m races, as well as a number of Relay Events over 100m & 200m.
How Often is the League?
The League takes place on Sunday afternoons with a start time of either 1.30pm or 4pm. The league rounds are held at Grangemouth Sports Complex, with the final in December.
All clubs involved host the galas once a year.
The other dates of the galas are listed in the calendar on the "Events & Competition" section of TeamUnify / OnDeck.
How Often Will My Child Take Part?
The coach, Laura Williamson, will invite you along to this meet but it won't be a monthly basis. You will receive an e-mail via TeamUnify when your child has been selected.
Please do not worry if your child does not get invited immediately. There are a large number of swimmers involved in the targeted squads however we make efforts to ensure every child gets a chance to take part.
How Much Does it Cost?
The other costs associated with running this League are covered by fundraising and entrance fees on the Club hosting days.
There is a spectator entry fee of £2 per person at the door for all FVJL meets.
How can you help?
In order for the galas to run, we need support from parents/carers. The gala cannot run without the help of 2 poolside helpers and 2 timekeepers and if Stirling Swimming does not meet the volunteer participation criteria, then we will not be able to participate in the meet.
Our volunteer co-ordinator (Allan Morrison) will ask for volunteers before each meet via email. Please come along and help us.
If you are interested in finding out more about the roles for volunteers, please contact Allan on [email protected].
