Aims

This squad focuses on mastering fundamental techniques across all strokes, with a particular focus on developing starts and turns.

 

This squad aims to develop training drills and prepare swimmers for competing.

 

Swimmers in this squad will be offered a second session per week (Sunday).

 

Suggested Equiment

  • Swimwear in line with Swim England guidance
  • Swimming Hat
  • Plastic refillable water bottle
  • Kick Board
  • Pull Buoy
  • Poolside Bag

 

Entry Requirements

  • Be able to confidently complete 50m without stopping of front crawl with regular breathing to the side
  • Be able to swim confidently 50m of backstroke with a straight body position and consistent kick
  • Be able to confidently swim 50m of breaststroke with a simultaneous kick
  • Be able to swim 25m butterfly without stopping
  • Be able to dive safely and legally from the block

 

Requirements to Move on from this Squad

 

  • Demonstrate an age-appropriate awareness of the club Code of Conduct for swimmers, supported by a parent or guardian
  • Be able to demonstrate a legal turn for all elements of an IM swim
  • Have good lane etiquette and be able to use the clock – setting themselves off at defined intervals
  • Have recorded competition times at 50m in at least 2 strokes, preferably 100m in at least one stroke
  • Perform a backstroke start with dolphin kick to the surface
  • Perform a strong freestyle dive from the blocks with appropriate push kick to at least 5m
  • Be training at approximately 4 x 100 @ 2:45 (subject to technical ability)
