CLYDE COAST MINI-LEAGUE FINALISTS
Mini-League is one of the highlights on the Scottish swimming calendar for younger swimmers, with serious competitive swimming, excitement, friendship, fun and lots of noise always on the cards! The qualifying rounds of the 2025 Clyde Coast Mini-League have been no exception.
As defending champions, REN96’s 12 years and under Mini-League squad have a lot to live up to but after the 3 qualifying rounds they have secured their place in the 2025 final in June in Ayr, with a 100% win record.
The ’GMH Chartered Accountants’ sponsored squad got their 2025 campaign off to a flying start, when they took on Kilmarnock and Kingston swimming teams in REN96’s home pool at the On-x in Linwood. The REN96 squad put on a brilliant performance to finish in 1st place with 204 points, with Kilmarnock finishing 2nd on 132 points and 3rd placed Kingston finishing with 121 points. It was an afternoon of amazing swimming and REN96 gave big thanks to Kilmarnock and Kingston for an exciting and fun Round 1.
Round 2 saw the squad travel to Stirling, to take on Stirling Swimming Club and Balfron Barracudas at Stirling University. Once again REN96 were up to the challenge and swam out winners on 200 points, with Stirling finishing on 146 points and Balfron on 55 points. It was a great evening of swimming and REN96 gave a big shout out to Stirling for hosting it in their fantastic home venue.
Round 3 was always going to be a tougher challenge for REN96 as they travelled to Milngavie to take on Milngavie & Bearsden swim team and Dumfries Amateur swim club - and so it turned out. With the lead changing a couple of times, Milngavie and Bearsden pushed REN96 hard but in the end REN96 were too strong in depth and finished 1st on 178 points, with the hosts a close 2nd on 169 points and Dumfries finishing 3rd on 131 points. Once again it was an afternoon of exciting, fun and noisy competition and REN96 thank Milngavie & Bearsden for hosting it in the great Allander sports centre.
With convincing wins in all 3 qualifying rounds, REN96 guaranteed their place in the final, where they will take on, among others, old swimming rivals City of Glasgow, South Ayrshire & Inverclyde along with Milngavie & Bearsden who no doubt will be looking for revenge after their defeat in round 3! This is guaranteed to be a close fought, exciting and loud afternoon of swimming.
This competition asks a lot of the swimmers but they wouldn’t be able to compete so well without the support of their squad coaches - Ross, Euan, Calum & Heather - and of the team of volunteer Team Managers, technical officials and supporters. The swimmers are very grateful for the support they get from everybody, including their sponsors ’GMH Chartered Accountants’.
