Coaching and Officials

Quality coaching is at the heart of Retford Swimming Club - we are very proud of the quality of our sessions and our group of coaches, led by our Director of Swimming, Simon Ferrarelli, and the Head Coach, Georgina Hobson-Corbett. Alongside several fully qualified coaching staff, we have a large group of volunteers and young helpers, who ensure our sessions run smoothly. We actively encourage our swimmers to get involved with helping on the poolside and progress through their ASA Coaching qualifications.

We also have a group of fully qualified swimming officials, including timekeepers, judges and referees. As well as these, we also rely on the help and support of many other people for the smooth running of galas, Open Meets, and Club administration.

Jazz

I’m Jasmine, I’ve been coaching with Retford Swimming Club for four years and coach a variety of different ages and abilities within the club on a Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. I’ve been a swimmer myself within the club for the last five years and have progressed up to county level for multiple events, my favourite strokes to swim are freestyle and butterfly. I’m currently studying sports and exercise sciences which I will be progressing to a full time degree, this will help me to further widen my coaching knowledge and further help to improve and develop the swimmers, besides my passion for swimming and sports coaching I also teach lifesaving, and I also work as a swimming teacher. I’m always about at Retford Swimming Club either on the poolside or in the pool training and I am always happy to help anyone with any questions

Tom

I joined the club in 2005 when the club was based in the old leisure centre. I was desperate to race and couldn't wait to turn 9, when I could race on my own and not just part of the relay team at league galas. I have been a member of Development, B & A squads in Nottingham Nova Centurions.

In 2014 I moved my performance swimming to City of Sheffield Swim Squad, but was still a member of Retford and supported the club whenever I could. During my time at Sheffield I medalled at the British Summer Nationals, I won the 200m freestyle junior title at the 2016 Olympic Trials and represented England twice in International meets.

I sadly had to retire from competitive swimming in November 2016 due to ill health, but wanted to pass on the skills I had learnt to the next generation of swimmers. I am now a Level 2 coach and as Simon once told me Retfords colours will always run through my veins.

(Tom originally wanted to simply put "You already know who I am")

Chloe

I’m Chloe. I am 15 years old and have been swimming with Retford Swimming Club since the age of 7. My love for the sport came when I started swimming lessons aged 4, further progressing all the way up to County Level. I am an active volunteer at the club and really enjoy coaching and seeing the younger swimmers progress, whilst enjoying the sport with the friends they have made at RSC. My immediate ambitions include continuing with the junior coaching programme and then possibly using my leadership and teamwork skills to hopefully become a primary school teacher in the future. Outside of swimming, I enjoy going to the gym and am a season ticket holder at Sheffield Wednesday FC.

Emily

My name is Emily and I take the 2 lanes closest to the showers on a Sunday night. I enjoy triathlon in my spare time and have been swimming with Retford Swimming Club for 7 years now.
