Tom Selected for SE Swimmer Development Programme
Off the back of a successful Summer at English and Welsh Nationals, Sunday saw Calibre’s Tom Wooffindin take part in Phase 1 of the Swim England Swimmer Development Programme (Stage 3 of the Talent Pathway) - The National Age Group Development Camp. These camps bring together the best upcoming talents in the country between 11-15 years old and provide them with a mixture of swimming coaching and educational courses, in key areas such as S&C, Nutrition, and Psychology.
The overarching aim of the programme is to provide athletes with performance incentives, in the hope that they can land a spot on the prestigious British Swimming Podium Potential programme from the age of 15 and go on to become medal winning Senior Internationals. NAGDP, comprises of 288 aspiring athletes across the country, led by a team of 54 coaches.
This weekend’s camp, based in Huddersfield, focused on stoke efficiency, and the linear correlation between Distance Per Stroke (DPS) and Elite performance, with the land-based activity focusing on the mobilisation of joints, and engaging the right contractile tissue with a variety of movements. Future camps will divulge into key technical aspects such as IM Turns, Dive starts and underwaters, and we look forward to hearing about those down the line!
A huge congratulations to Tom on the selection – a massive achievement and step 1 ticked off to becoming the ‘Great British Swimmer’!
