Roger Perrell 1946-2022

It is with great sadness that we learned during the weekend at the passing, on Thursday 8th September, of our dear friend and colleague Roger Perrell.

Roger was made a life member of City of Wakefield Swimming Club in 2017 in recognition of his many years service to CoWSC, a club where his son Ian started his swimming journey.  

Roger held the position of Membership Secretary before passing the role onto Neil Barker when he eventually stepped down from the committee. He continued to selflessly devote a considerable amount of his own time to the running of our club long after he retired from his committee role, most notably by officiating at our Club Championships and Licenced Time Trials. 

Before the COVID pandemic he often popped into Sun Lane on Monday evenings to catch-up with the people he knew, to see how the club was getting on, and share his knowledge through his positions on the Yorkshire and NER boards.
He was also involved in the planning and design of Sun Lane Leisure, the facility we train in now, that replaced the old Sun Lane baths.  His input into which will continue to benefit us for many years to come.

Roger was also President of the Yorkshire Swimming Association in 2011.
