By the time swim downs, stretching and race videos were watched, in turned out to be a late evening, but the six swimmers were up early walking round the Gorbles and Clylde bank areas of Glasgow in the dazzling sun and prepared for the races ahead. After two conscientious days of training and familiarization at the Tollcross venue the trio of lads racing on day one was raring to go. They were all up in the 50m Backstroke Heats. The anticipation always steps up a notch in the second round of SJL and this year was no exception. Littledown July 6th & 7th 2019 This sunny weekend saw swimmers from Youth Potential, Rising Stars and Youth Performance race at the Dorset Development Meet at Littledown. While the rest of Poole may have been enjoying the sunshine, our PSC swimmers were focussed and ready to race, in an effort to smash out end-of-season times and implement strategic improvements, as the year’s training came to fruition. With the cancellation of the South West Open Water competition due to sea temperatures being predicted not to meet the minimum temperature of 16 degrees for a competition to be held, another event was selected at short notice as a qualifying event by Swim England South West, thankfully just up the road at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham. MEET AIM This meet, at Bristol Hengrove, was billed as a Long Course Racing Opportunity for PSC, to improve performances related to race processes. For those attending the British Summer Champs, English Nationals or London End of Season Meet it would be the final practice run to achieve season best times. FORMAT The weekend’s racing employed the new Swim England Trial format, running 3 Fastest Heats first, with the slower heats swum next, followed by finals. Huge PSC Congratulations to Arron, Freddie B, Freddie H and Luca, following their selection onto the Regional Pathway Programme. The boys have been chosen, following their performances at Regionals this year, to attend three one day camps at Millfield School in June, September and October this year, run by Swim England South-West. “I’d like to say a huge WELL DONE on being selected - Great work lads!” said Coach Jan. We look forward to seeing the boys go from strength to strength over the coming season.
Saturday night saw the PSC Southern Junior League Team fired up and ready to race in Round 1 of 3, the first outing for team this time was hosted at Weymouth. After a final team practice at Ferndown, Coach Jan felt confident that the swimmers’ evident team spirit would lead to a great night of racing. It was time to head west to the familiar venue of Dorchester as Poole’s developing swimmers took the opportunity to compete at the Swim West Dorset Level 3 Summer Meet. It what became a very successful two days the club returned with a sack full of medals and person best times.
