King's College Taunton Community Swimming - Equality and Diversity Policy

We want every child in our community swimming programme to be able to participate to the best of their ability and to be as successful as possible in meeting their goals and aspirations.

Our commitment is that our lessons and squad sessions embrace inclusivity, diversity and promote equality of opportunity. We work to ensure this commitment is reflected in our day-to-day working practices for the benefit of our swimmers, their families, the staff team and other partners.

How we work:

  • We provide equality of opportunity for all swimmers to participate in our swimming lessons and squad sessions.
  • We do not discriminate on the grounds of the protected characteristics (disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation).
  • Our swimming lessons are conducted in small groups, with very favorable adult to child ratios. This supports our commitment to providing equality of opportunity to our learners, enabling us to provide support and make reasonable adjustments when these are needed.
  • Our squad sessions provide opportunities for swimmers of a range of abilities to improve technique, build fitness and enjoy being in the water.
  • We value our staff team and invest in training and developing our team members so we can continue to develop a culture that enables and values the involvement of all.
  • We work hard to provide swimming lessons and squad sessions in a way that is fair to our learners, their families and our colleagues; we do not want any of these groups to be disadvantaged by imposing any unreasonable conditions.
  • We provide a community swimming environment which is safe and fun for our learners.
  • To support our commitments to equality and diversity, we have a set of policies, including community swimming terms and conditions and complaints policy, which provide a clear operating framework and avenue for our swimmers and their families to raise concerns.
  • This policy will be reviewed annually.
