Whilst our professionally qualified coaches and learn to swim teachers are paid, the wider activities of the club require a significant volunteer effort. This helps us to:-
- Provide lifeguards at training sessions;
- Stage our programme of club, island and open meets throughout the season
- Manage the Club effectively through our Committee
- Complete Club admin including the website, social networks and club records
- Arrange social events, provide a Club Shop and raise funds to offset the ever-increasing expense of swimming.
We always need new volunteers to come forward and we would appreciate you giving a little of your time to help the Club and to spread the workload.
Of course, there are many reasons not to volunteer:
- My son / daughter is not competing in that event
- I don't know where to start
- I am nervous about being an official
- I am too busy
- I already pay my squad fees, that should be enough.
The more people we can secure do 'a little' means we don't impose on anyone to do 'a lot. There is a natural progression in swimming and this creates natural turnover as swimmers reach their desired goals and move on from the sport. This means it's an evergreen challenge to secure volunteers.
We also rely on volunteers, particularly amongst our Swim England Technical Officials who no longer have children swimming and will themselves want to hang-up their stop-watches, clipboards and whistles: we need new officials in-training to step-in.
We would like more volunteers to come forwards and get involved in the Club. It is rewarding to put something back and it helps you, as a parent, to get much closer to the sport that your children enjoy participating in.
