Being selected as a Club Captain is an honour you should be proud of. The captain’s role is to help and support all swimmers within the Club, be a role model and demonstrate a positive influence in both training and competition environments.

MAIN DUTIES

The role of a Club Captain means you will be seen as a role model at all times, and someone that other athletes in the Club look up to.

•  Arrive early for meetings, training and  events ;
•  Take  the initiative in offering help and support to others e.g. helping to set up lane ropes and help other volunteers at events as  necessary •   Find time to speak  to  and hear the views of others at the  C lub e.g. attending a squad session of younger swimmers to let them know who you are and find out what their needs are at the  C lub ;
•  Being an ambassador for WSSC. Be proud to wear your Club Captain shirt at galas, coaching sessions and any time when you are representing the  Club ;
•  Training is an important part of swimming and as a Captain you should  at all times  demonstrate good work ethic in training and race ethics and promote the same from all members of the  Club ;
•  Have a good attendance record Attending competitions is a key part of the support role a Captain offers to the team,  so  every effort should be made to attend as many galas and open meets as is possible, regardless of whether you are competing yourself. Particularly for all our home meets, any galas that we host and  C lub  C hampionships ;
•  Have good communications skills  and be approachable so swimmers  feel they  can contact and talk to you about any queries or comments they may have, provide support and advice where needed and offering guidance for less experience team  mates ;
•  Promote a positive club culture. Uphold the  C lub’s values, code of conduct and standards of  behaviour ;
•  Inspire and encourage team - mates – especially during tough training sessions  and  at  competitions ;
•  Represent the views of the swimmers to the coaching  team ;
•  Be a positive role model for all members of the  C lub in attitude, attendance and commitment to the sport and to the  C lub ;
•  Offer support to the other  Captains ;
•  Welcome new members to the  C lub ;
•  Make time to offer guidance and support to the parents of the young swimmers where  necessary ;
•  Organise and lead team activities. Help to plan bonding activities amongst the  squads and offer ideas for fundraisers and social events with the  FinS  team.  Enc ourage participation in  C lub-wide activities and  events ;
•  Leading and motivation are key to a positive poolside environment, ensuring pre-pool land warm - ups are carried out prior to training sessions and  competition s;
•  Help support younger swimmers at competitions, set ting  up and leading the cheering squad from poolside .
