
Gala Report: Aspiring Champions

The March Aspiring Champions gala saw 35 Shark Swimmers having lots of fun and good competition
in UL over two days March 29 th and 30 th . This gala was a chance to build up Connacht and Summer
National qualifying times for many swimmers, and Shark swimmers were focused on results.
Coach Daniel was joined by Ross on Saturday and Noel on Sunday. As ever thanks to the Team
Managers, Call Room officials, Time Keepers and Turn Judges listed below. Great to see some new Shark parents
on deck.
Highlights of the Event
- 35 Shark Swimmers represented Black to Yellow squads
- Niamh Connery winning 100m Breaststroke where a time of 1:11.06 set yet another Connacht junior record.
Swimmers Performance:
To the new Connacht Record we added 16 first place finishes (5 of them going to Club Captain Katie
Kelly!), along with 9 second and 9 third place. Shark SC registered an impressive 99 PB’s achieved
over a total of 183 swims.
Special mention to the following swimmers who all had 100% PB performance in all of their events:
Milly Carlon Coyle (7), Ethan Cullina (5), Orlaith Dickson (5), Diarmuid Mellet (2), Jack Murphy (3),
Antonella Najt (2)

Club Captains: Well done all. Great to see new faces at Aspiring Challenger and to see so many
positive PB’s from Shark swimmers. Keep it up!
Next Up
Future Challenger in Leisureland, hosted by GSC on Sunday 6 th April.
Then to the NAC for the biggest event on the Swim Ireland calendar, the Irish Open which will feature Niamh Connery, Katie Kelly,
Neysa Connolly and Olivia Currie all proudly wearing the Shark SC hat.
