PIA Guide (Parent in Attendance)
Essential Rule
• A PIA must be present at all sessions.
• If no PIA is on duty → session will be cancelled.
• Failure to attend your duty may lead to disciplinary action.
Before Session
• If you can’t attend → find a replacement.
• Arrive 15 mins before start time.
• Position yourself at the turnstile to give swimmers access to the changing village.
• Notify pool staff on arrival that you are the PIA for the session.
• Swimmers cannot enter changing rooms until you’re there.
During Session
• After check-in when the session starts, move poolside to designated areas (not spectator seating) there can be no exception to this rule moving forward and we request you sit in the areas requested:
-Leisureland → Gym side bench (access via gate) if 6 lanes are in use. If 3 lanes are in use far side of the pool take a seat over at the side of the lanes in use.
-Kingfisher UOG → Seating under timing clocks
-Kingfisher Renmore → Window bay benches
-Ocean Fitness → Poolside seating near training lanes
• Confirm coach is recording attendance (OnDeck app).
• Monitor swimmers leaving/returning to pool.
• Raise concerns with coach → if needed, email piasharksc@gmail.com (for Children’s Officer record).
• Access parent contact details via coach’s OnDeck if required.
• Assist coach in an emergency.
• Ensure to remind swimmers that phone use is prohibited in changing villages and pool areas.
It is the role of the PIA to observe and be alert. Please do not wear headphones or use devices while filling the role.
End of Session
- Depart the pool area ahead of swimmers and position yourself back at the turnstiles.
• Stay until all U12 swimmers are collected.
• Report late collections to coach/committee (breach of Code of Conduct).
GOOD PRACTICE ADVISED BY SHARK:
Parents/Guardians who ARE NOT PIAs are still required to bring their swimmers into the facility until they are aware a PIA is on site.
Parents collecting swimmers in green, Orange Dev, Orange A & Yellow should be onsite at the session end time, and make PIA aware you have returned. Please do not remain in cars - respect the 10 minute collection window, and move onsite if your swimmer has not left.

WHATSAPP GROUP LINKS :
Parent in Attendance
Having no person on duty is a breach of Swim Ireland rules. If a person on duty does not turn up, the coach must ensure the safety of the young people and themselves; this may mean cancelling the session unless a replacement is found. The person on duty who did not turn up may be subject to disciplinary action by the club.
The PIA is an adult required by Swim Ireland rules to oversee coaching sessions to reduce risks and ensure someone is on hand for any emergency that might arise.
