King’s College Swimming Pool Rules
To ensure every user of King’s College Swimming Pool has a safe, enjoyable and positive experience the following rules need to be adhered to.
General Rules

Please keep to the footpaths on the approach to the pool.

Entry to the facility is only allowed when the named person (identified as being in-charge of the specific group, activity or session) is in attendance.

The named person, identified as being responsible for the group, activity or session must remain on site until everyone in his/her charge has left the building.

For external hirers, no one may enter or remain in the pool hall unless a qualified lifeguard is on duty.

Maximum bather loads and lifeguard ratios must be adhered to.

Lone swimming is strictly forbidden.

Swimmers must enter and exit the changing room via the pre-cleanse area and not through the swimming pool reception area.

Please refrain from walking on pool deck in outdoor footwear. Any spectators wearing outdoor shoes must remain on the blue matted area, or wear the blue plastic over shoes.

Glassware and food must not be taken into the changing rooms or on pool deck.

Smoking is strictly forbidden. King’s College is a no smoking site.

Chewing gum is forbidden.

There is no unauthorised entry to the plant room, cleaning store or poolside equipment store.

King’s College cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal property. A lost property box is provided. Any items left at the swimming pool are placed in the lost property box and are kept for 2 weeks. King’s College cannot store lost items indefinitely.

All swimmers and spectators must respect pool staff.

All users must behave in a respectful manner.

External hirers must set up and set down the pool accordingly.
Safety

All hirers must complete a safety observation prior to their session starting, to determine any potential hazards and minimise any risk of danger, injury or harm to participants.

Any named person responsible for a group, activity or session should have a mobile in case of emergencies. The poolside phone can be used for emergency calls, the number 9 must be dialled before the usual emergency number to access an outside line. 999 can be accessed without a prefix. Additional useful telephone numbers are included in the NOP and listed on the telephone itself. Please note that during a power cut the telephone system will be inoperable.

The person responsible for the closing the swimming pool must ensure that the building is empty, the pool cover is on, all lights and utilities have been turned off and the changing rooms are tidy. It is then his/her responsibility to -ensure the building entrance doors are closed upon departure.

Alternative aquatic activities can only take place with exclusive use of the pool.

Non-swimmers should remain in the shallow end of the pool.

Please do not run on poolside.

In the event of any damage to any part of the King’s College Swimming Pool facility or equipment, the Pool Manager and the Head of Swimming must be informed. Contact details are included at the end of this document.
Hygiene
At King’s College we take pride in the cleanliness and quality of the swimming pool. The following rules must be adhered to, to ensure the health and hygiene of all pool users.

All bathers must shower before using the swimming pool.

All bathers must walk through the pre-cleanse area to enter the pool hall, not back through the reception area.

Outside footwear must not be worn on pool deck.

Shoes should be removed before entering the changing rooms.

Swimmers with long hair should wear a swimming cap.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is taken very seriously at King’s College Taunton , due to the nature of a swimming environment, there are a number of rules that must be adhered to safeguard and protect any child or vulnerable adult.
Safeguarding policies and procedures also protect staff and any individuals working with children and young people.

The schools Child Protection policy applies to the swimming pool facility and staff.

Changeover times must be adhered to. Any group must not enter the changing rooms if the previous group are still using the changing area.

Only photography that has been authorised can take place, otherwise photography of any kind is forbidden.

Any concerns regarding the safeguarding of any person should be reported to the Head of Swimming who will determine a course of action in line with the school policies and procedure.
