VACANCY: PERFORMANCE DEVELOPMENT SWIMMING COACH (SELF-EMPLOYED)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join the University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming (UoAPS) programme. Located in Aberdeen Aquatics Centre, UoAPS is a national performance swimming programme that delivers a world-class training environment through professional coaching and state-of-the-art facilities for competitive swimming in Aberdeen. The programme integrates several of Aberdeen’s amateur swimming clubs (i.e. Bon Accord Thistle ASC; Bridge of Don ASC; Bucksburn ASC; Cults Otters ASC; and Dyce ASC) as well as the Aberdeen University Swimming and Waterpolo Club. Delivered in partnership with Aberdeen Sports Village and Scottish Swimming, UoAPS fosters home-grown talent, as well as attracting high-level athletes from around the world.
Terms of Appointment
- Contract type: self-employed, fixed term (one year), part time
- The postholder will normally undertake 12 hours work per week, which may vary due to busy/quiet times during the season
- Weekly coaching hours is paid at a rate of £15 per hour. Attendance at swimming meets is paid at a rate of £25 per session, capped at a maximum of two sessions per day
- Where agreed, expenses associated with attending swimming meets (e.g. transportation, accommodation) may be invoiced to UoAPS
About the Role
Working closely with the Performance Coach, the postholder will deliver engaging, structured coaching sessions for talented swimmers aged 12 years plus. As a self-employed coach, duties and responsibilities are primarily concentrated on coaching, with no additional expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver swimming coaching to a squad of performance development athletes
- Conduct focused training sessions tailored to the needs of age-group athletes
- Work alongside the Performance Coach to support athletes in developing technique, endurance, and competitive performance
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to support individual athlete development
Qualifications & Experience
- The successful candidate must be a member of Scottish Swimming, holding a Scottish Swimming Coaching Qualification (or equivalent), and valid PVG scheme disclosure
- A background in coaching competitive age-group swimming is essential, and experience of working in a performance environment is desirable
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for motivating and developing young athletes is required
