THE UOAPS COACHING TEAM

Coaching on the UOAPS programme is provided by three full-time coaches, with assistance from volunteers.  Close links with the coaches of the affiliated swimming clubs provide a wider network that supports and nurtures local swimmers.

The current full-time coaches are:

 

 

PATRICK MILEY

Patrick has coached at Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Games. Patrick's daughter, Hannah Miley (triple Olympian; and World, European, and Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist), who swam with the UoAPS High Performance Squad.

Patrick developed the Aquapacer (Electronic Programmable Audio Training device used by one in every three Olympic Gold Medallists in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games). In the 1990s, Patrick spent several years working with GB, Australian and USA Olympic medalists (including Ian Thorpe and Brook Bennett) influencing their training with focus upon stroke rate and pacing strategies.

Patrick has worked with British swimming as a Coach on many International Teams including multiple appearances at the Olympic Games, World Long Course Championships, European Short Course and Long Course Championships, and European Junior Championships.

Supporting athletes onto three Olympic teams and several World and European LC and SC Teams, Patrick has contributed to a total of 38 international medals.  

Named British Coach of the Year (2010), Patrick has shared his passion for swimming at multiple USA, World, and national coaches conferences.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

GREGOR MCMILLAN

Gregor has been coaching in Aberdeen for nearly 20 years, which includes extensive involvement in the previous city programme (COAST) as an athlete and later as Head Coach. Working at every level in the pathway, Gregor has significantly contributed to the development and progression of swimming in Aberdeen as a teacher, club coach and Performance Development Coach.

Gregor has worked with athletes that have qualified for (and medalled at) the Commonwealth Games, Para World Championships and the Paralympic Games. Accompanying two of his qualifying athletes (Toni Shaw and Conner Morrison), Gregor was selected onto Team GB as Coach for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, where Toni Shaw podiumed for bronze in the S9 400m freestyle. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JENN DAVIS

Jenn joined the programme from Edinburgh where she contributed to the performance coaching team.
