CODE OF CONDUCT

Training camps – Staff and Swimmers

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this document is to establish a set of guidelines and procedures which outline the responsibilities and behaviour of Committee member, staff, swimmers and parents of Barnet Copthall Swimming club.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Behaviour and personal conduct must at all times be of a high standard and reflect favourably on the Club.  Language in public must always be appropriate and socially acceptable.

Consumption of alcohol is totally forbidden for athletes under age as defined by UK law.  Alcohol must not be consumed by swimmers over the age of 18 at swim meets or training camps.  Alcohol must not be consumed by Team Managers, Chaperones or coaches during a competition and may also not be consumed on route or during a training camp or team activity without special consent of the team manager.

Smoking is prohibited for swimmers and all team staff whilst on route, prior to or during a competitive event, training camp or team activity.

Personal appearance.  Team kit shall be worn when representing the team or as directed by the team manager when competing, when assembling or travelling, at official functions, at team or individual photos or other occasions notified.

Attendance at all activities on training camps and team activities is expected unless agreed by the team manager.  Swimmers and staff must inform the team manager of their whereabouts during all training camps and team activities.  Punctuality on all occasions is essential and any curfew must be observed.

Illegal substances.  Swimmers are expected to comply with FINA rules with regards to anti doping, Swimmers are personally responsible for what they consume or take, it is advised that both the swimmers and parents are aware of the current banned substances lists and particular care must be taken if given any medication from a GP or hospital.

Medication.  It is important that information on all medication currently being taken is given to the team manager for all team activities and training camps. The team manager should also be notified of any allergies or disabilities.  These details should also be kept up to date at reception.

Sanctions. At team events or training camps any breaches of the code of conduct will be dealt with in the first instance by the team manager or coach.  Any incidents shall be reported to the secretary of the club who will decide if further action is to be taken, if further action is required it will then be put before a disciplinary committee.

In addition it is expected that all members, staff and swimmers

           Comply with the codes, rules and laws within the guidelines set by Swim England.

           Comply with the Club’s general code of conduct.

Behave without discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language, religion, birth or social status as set out in the Swim England equal opportunities policy.

Respect the basic human rights, worth and dignity of all members.

Nor encourage swimmers, volunteers, officials or parents to violate the rules of the club or sport.

Observe the authority and decisions of all officials, only team staff can contest decisions made by officials and only in certain circumstances.

Encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool.

Treat other competitors and teams with respect, in victory and defeat.
