PAUL
Former GB International Swimmer and British Open Water Champion who has swum the Channel as well as numerous Open Water Long Distance Swims around the world.
Some of the highlights for Paul was becoming the fastest person to have swum Kielder Reservoir, Derwentwater, 2 way Windermere and the Ijsselmeer (Netherlands) in his career and was awarded Northumberland and Durham Swimmer of the Year for his achievements.
Paul's coaching career began with his home club City of Newcastle where he began with the Master's Squad where he had a World Champion. He then went onto coaching the age group swimmers as well as being assistant to the top squad which had swimmers on every Olympic team from Barcelona 92 to Beijing 08.
In 2000 after the Sydney Olympics Paul took the position of Head Coach at Newburn ASC which had one National Qualifier in the club. Within 6 years the club was taking over 40 swimmers to Nationals and had won Top Girls Club at the GB Summer Nationals. Added to this was Senior International representation with medals at the European Championships, several Senior British records and also British Age Group Record.
At coaching level Paul had numerous GB & Swim England Coach selections both for competitions and training camps.
In 2006 Paul was appointed Head Coach of City of Sunderland with the brief of building the club from 70 members and 2 National swimmer's to be able to move into the new 10 lane 50m facility that was being built.
Within 3 years the club had over 400 members and had moved from 155th ranked club at Nationals to being in the Top 10 taking over 30+ swimmer's.
Again Paul produced the clubs first Senior International in over 10 years when he put a swimmer on the 2009 World Championships in the men's 50 & 100 Butterfly.
In the week previous to the World Championships Paul was selected as Head Coach for the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland where his swimmer won 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
For the results achieved Paul was awarded the City of Sunderland Sports Coach of the Year.
In 2009 Paul was then appointed Swim England Regional Beacon Coach based at Portsmouth where the program helped produce several International Swimmers and medals at European Juniors.
Following the end of funding for the Beacon Program Paul was then appointed Head Coach of Lincoln Vulcans where he coached the clubs first GB National Champion for over 20 years as well as other multiple medal winners at both GB & English Nationals.
Paul was then recruited by Kingston Royals to lead their Performance Squad before he joined EDSC.
SUE

As an ex-swimmer I love being in the swimming world and part of the EDSC community. Many years ago, as an age group swimmer, I competed at national level for 5 years, Olympic trials and I was selected to compete in 3 international meets. My proudest moments representing UK in the pool.
Following retiring from competition, swimming has remained my lifelong passion. I’ve been involved teaching lifeguarding, coaching squad swimmers and never tire of the scientific & professional developments in the competitive swimming world. I am a qualified coach and since joining EDSC, when my daughter choose competitive swimming, I was persuaded to train as an official - now as a qualified J2/starter I love officiating too!
I also volunteer as a member of the EDSC Committee and Treasurer.
MADDIE

I have been a member of EDSC competitive squads for 7 years and currently swim in the Performance squad. I qualified as an assistant coach ( Level 1) 2 years ago and have enjoyed coaching A1 and A2. I am looking forward to taking my level 2 coach qualification as soon as I’m 18. I currently have offers to study Sports Science at Loughborough and Birmingham Universities, from the Autumn. I look forward to brining this knowledge back to EDSC. to help all the swimmers perform.
