HST Central has three levels; Performance, Development and Training. HST Regional has 2 levels, Performance and Development.
Athletes are identified for progression into the Training level from the central based clubs, and into the Development level from the regional based clubs. Each level is set up to provide opportunties for athletes to continue developing, advance from the club training programme and provide an enchanced competitive pathway. Due to the geographical layout of the programme, the central based clubs have access to regular training opportunities. At the Development and Performance levels, the majority of training is within HST sessions at Inverness Leisure. Strong links are maintained with home clubs, and athletes attend 1 to 2 sessions per week with their home club. In the regional area, training is based within the home club, with additional support and opportunities for those identified on the HST Athlete Structure.
HST continues to grow with success stories and there are a large number of athletes eligible to compete at Scottish National level, with some working towards British level. HST athletes had medal successes at Scottish National Age Group Championships 2023 and Scottish National Summer Meet 2023. One swimmer has recently returned after representing the GB squad for the European Down Syndrome Championships and is due to compete for GB in the World Down Syndrome Championships in Turkey this March.
HST swimmers have recently represented the North District at competitions in Bangor and Sheffield. Three swimmers achieved selection for the Scottish Swimming National Junior Academy 2023 and two swimmers were selected for Scottish Swimming National Youth Academy 2023.
