Nancy Jubb Claims Three British Para Champion Titles and Sets New British Record at 2024 Winter Meet
Team Bath AS para-swimmers made waves at the Aquatics GB Para-Swimming Winter National Meet 2024 at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Birmingham. Competing against the nation’s top para-athletes, the team delivered outstanding performances, showcasing skill, determination, and competitive spirit.
Jubb’s Record-Breaking Streak
The star of the show was 16-year-old Nancy Jubb, who clinched three British Para Championship titles in the Women's S5 14/17yrs age group and set a new British short-course record in the Women's S5 50m Backstroke.
Jubb's golden run began on the meet's opening day with victories in the S5 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle. Her stunning performances included a time of 1:26.22 in the 100m Freestyle, earning 848 para points, and a time of 39.53 seconds in the 50m Freestyle, amassing 846 para points.
On the second day, Jubb made history by setting a new British record in the Women's S5 50m Backstroke with a time of 44.68, her fastest ever.
"Nancy's performances this weekend were nothing short of exceptional," said Team Bath AS Start Para Lead Coach, Kay Willcox. "To win three British titles and set a national record is a testament to her hard work, resilience, and dedication. She's an inspiration to her teammates and the wider swimming community."
Jubb's para-swimming journey began in June when she joined Team Bath AS after attending an #InspiredToTry taster session. Previously competing as an able-bodied swimmer, her remarkable progress and achievements are a source of immense pride for the Club.
Strong Performances Across the Team
Other Team Bath AS athletes also impressed, including Sophie York (S6, 14/17yrs), who achieved a 7-second personal best in the 400m Freestyle, and Natalie Webb (S8, 10/13yrs), who secured strong finishes in the Freestyle and Backstroke events.
The event highlighted the depth of talent in Team Bath AS's para-swimming program. Fuelled by exceptional coaching and unwavering dedication, the swimmers' achievements underscore the importance of such events in fostering growth, inclusion, and a sense of community.
Huge congratulations to Nancy, Natalie and Sophie for their fantastic performances.
