A Fantastic Community-Spirited Team Bath AS & Millfield Regional Qualifier
The local swimming community came together to support the recent Team Bath AS & Millfield Regional Qualifier SC L3, held at Millfield from February 28 to March 2. Swimmers across all age groups delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating their talent, determination, and team spirit. The meet saw an impressive number of personal bests, podium finishes, and regional-qualifying times, making it a strong event for all participating clubs.
Strong Start Sets the Tone
From a Team Bath AS perspective, the competition kicked off with a stellar opening night, as all three long-distance swimmers medaled. Adam Hordern (15yr) and Hugo Jones (17yr) both claimed gold in the 1500m Freestyle, while Jas Workman (13yr) secured bronze in the 800m Freestyle. Their successes set the stage for a weekend filled with strong performances.
Session 2 continued this momentum, with Euan Sparey (15yr) and Ollie Squire (14yr) excelling in the 400m Freestyle, securing gold and reinforcing the club’s strength in endurance events.
Rising Stars Shine Bright
The younger age groups demonstrated incredible promise:
- Micah Wong (9yr) dominated multiple events, excelling in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke.
- Liv Lynch (10yr) secured multiple medals, including gold in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley (IM).
- Etta Knowles (12yr) impressed with multiple wins in breaststroke and IM events.
- Lola Jones Madrid (13yr) delivered a strong breaststroke performance, clinching gold in the 50m and 100m, and silver in the 200m.
- Nathan Yau (13yr) earned podium finishes in all five of his events, underscoring his versatility.
Dominance in Sprint & Distance Events
Team Bath AS displayed depth across all strokes and distances.
- The 50m Fly and 50m Freestyle featured packed podiums, with Sam Dowding (14yr) and Sam Slee (15yr) securing gold in the 50m and 100m Freestyle.
- Maisie Babbage (16yr) showcased her talent, winning gold in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly.
- The boys’ backstroke events were equally impressive, with Louis Clark (13yr) winning gold in the 50m and 200m, Ben Bradford (14yr) excelling in the 100m, and Toby Edwards (10yr) taking gold in the 50m and 200m.
Para-Swimmers Excel
The event also demonstrated Team Bath AS’s commitment to inclusivity, with para-swimmers delivering outstanding performances:
- Natalie Webb (S8, 13yr) secured gold in the 400m Freestyle, 200IM, and 200m Freestyle.
- Sophie York (S6, 15yr) claimed silver in the 400m Freestyle and 200IM, highlighting the strength of the club’s para-swimming programme.
A True Community Effort
The success of this event would not have been possible without the incredible support from volunteers and officials. Team Bath AS extends its heartfelt thanks to City of Bristol Aquatics, Swindon Dolphin ASC, and Warminster & District ASC for their invaluable assistance.
With numerous personal bests, regional times, and medals achieved, Team Bath AS swimmers are looking strong for the season ahead. The club’s blend of established athletes and emerging talent promises an exciting and competitive 2025.
