How to join South Ayrshire Swim Team (SAST)

South Ayrshire Swim Team (SAST) are working in close partnership with South Ayrshire Council’s (SAC) Learn To Swim (LTS) programme to establish a clear pathway from beginner to club swimmer within South Ayrshire. We aim to provide swimming opportunities for all swimmers.

SAST Come and Try Sessions

Any swimmer looking to join SAST must be assessed. We call all of our assessments 'Come and Try Sessions' as we would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone looking to join us without any additional pressures associated with the words 'trial' or 'assessment'.

To attend a Come and Try Session, swimmers must have contacted us, provided us with the relevant information via the form below:

Next Come and Try Session dates:

Tuesday 17th February 2026, 7.15-8.15pm @ Citadel, Ayr

If you are enrolled within South Ayrshire Council’s Learn To Swim programme…

Swimmers within Club Ready are eligible to join one of our Development Squads. This will be if the coaches feel that they are ready for additional training opportunities as well as our squads having available space.

Swimmers within Skills 4 and who have achieved 50% or more of the criteria, are eligible to join our Transition Squad. To be part of this squad, swimmers need to remain within their Skills 4 class until they have achieved 100% (at which point they can move to one of the SAST Development Squads as per the information above). The aim of the squad is to help give swimmers the experience of training within a club environment to supplement their swimming development within the lesson programme and advance their progress.

If you are not enrolled within South Ayrshire Council's Learn To Swim programme…

Swimmers from out with SAC’s LTS programme can still join SAST after being assessed at one of our Come and Try Sessions. If we feel that they are not quite ready for the club, and they are already in lessons elsewhere, we may recommend coming back for an assessment in a few months’ time once a specific development area has been addressed, which will make the move into SAST much easier for the swimmer involved.
