Academy Swimming Club
Academy 1-5 is for children who love to swim and want to progress their ability and fitness.
Academy is great for children who want to continue to learn and build confidence in order to compete. Some Academy members enjoy the flexibility offered here in their training program, due to other sporting or academic commitments. Some Academy members want to reach their potential in swimming, but do not enjoy competing which can often be a requirement of many other squads or clubs.
Verulam Swimming Club provides swimming opportunities for all, at a level that is both appropriate and gradually progressive in standard. We place strong emphasis on teaching and developing swimming skills, and provide competition to swimmers’ competitive (or not) desires.
Swimmers in Academy do not need to compete but we highly encourage members to take part in Club Champs - a safe friendly space - to see how much your personal best time has improved. Many Academy swimmers enjoy competition and take part in open meets and many reach county standards
Swimmers interested in joining can come along for a trial with a coach. Their stamina, stroke and diving abilities will be assessed, and providing space is available, s/he will be offered membership in one of the academy groups (1-5). As swimmers progress and improve they move through the groups.
We also have competitive squads for those who enjoy competition and where swimming is their main sporting activity. If your child is demonstrating the commitment, attitude and ability required you may be approached to take part in a trial period in Pathway Squad, or please let your coach know that you are interested in this path.
At Verulam, we have a strong coaching team led by Karl Fenwick. We also promote our own swimmers and parents to become involved in teaching, officiating, and coaching, on a voluntary basis and through professional ASA courses. Find out more about the team in Who’s who.
