Gala Info - On The Day

If you are attending a gala please check on the website for warm up times. You should be at poolside approximately 30 minutes before the warmup start time.

Once changed, go directly to the coach and check in.  The coach will instruct you on stretching, warm up, prepare you for your race and provide constructive feedback after the race.

You should remain with your team at all times until the coach says otherwise, either after your last race or at the end of the session.

If you require to leave poolside you should notify the coach as to where you are going.

If you are unable to attend a gala you should inform the club preferably the night before but a least before warm up so the coach can withdraw you from your swims.

Above all else have fun and enjoy your day! Remember to show support and encoragement to your team mates.

What to Bring

  • 2 towels (1 for poolside and 1 for changing room)
  • 2 swimsuits (1 for warm up and 1 for racing)
  • 2 pairs of goggles
  • 2 Swim caps
  • Sharks T-Shirt/Shorts
  • Water/Juice – No fizzy drinks or glass bottles
  • Small healthy snack for after warm up/race
  • Lunch if you are swimming in 2 sessions

Parents

Most clubs will charge a small entry fee to spectate, for raffles and for meet programmes so it is advisable to bring cash as very few clubs are able to take card payments. This goes towards the running of the meet.

We would discourage parents from coaching from the sidelines. This can reduce the swimmers likelihood to take on feedback from their squad coach, and become distracting at competitions. The coach should always be the first person a swimmer speaks to after a swim at a competition. This will help the swimmers development.

We encourage parents to watch and always be there to encorage and support at competitions, but please trust the coaches to do their job!

Meet Mobile

Meet Mobile is a useful to have. This is a subscription-based app available on Apple and Android that gives meet information in real time. You can follow your favourite swimmers and/or teams and easily filter down to see both completed results and upcoming schedules. You can see pre-race rankings, and heat/lane assignments as they become available.

Search "Meet Mobile" where you normally purchase your apps.

Parents Volunteering for Duties at Meets

Clubs provide volunteers, generally time-keepers, based on the number of their swimmers attending the meet. It is a preferable that if your child is entered in to a swimming meet, you should make yourself available for volunteer duties. Duties can include marsahlling, timekeeping, technical offical roles, spectator admissions, etc. Even a half day helps and time will pass so much quicker!

Sign up links are generally circulated in the lead up to the meet.
