Bellshill Sharks made their mark at the Scottish National Age Group Meet (SNAGS) held from April 10th to 14th, 2024. Over the five-day event, the team showcased their talent, determination, and camaraderie, achieving notable successes and personal milestones.

Day 1: A Promising Start

The opening day set a positive tone for the Sharks, with a strong display of talent and determination from all participants. Ethan, Ruben, Logan McD, Aaron, Callum, Allanah, Millie, Rebecca, Amy, and Logan showcased their abilities, delivering numerous personal bests (PBs) and securing spots in finals. Notable achievements included Ethan's 3rd place finishes in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly, and Allanah's 3rd place in the 50m Breaststroke. Rebecca also demonstrated her strength with a 5th place in the 1500m Freestyle and a 10th place in the 200m Backstroke.

Day 2

The momentum continued into the second day, where Ethan emerged as the Scottish National Age Group Champion in the 200m Butterfly for 15-year-old boys. Millie and Allanah displayed outstanding performances, securing personal bests in the 200m Breaststroke heats and clinching spots in the finals.

The team showcased their strength across various events, with notable performances from Aaron, Rebecca, Sophie, and Amy, each achieving significant milestones and setting new personal bests. Additionally, the 11-13 girls' relay team, comprising Charlotte, Sophie, Amy, and Rebecca, displayed outstanding teamwork, securing a commendable 5th place in the 4x100m Freestyle relay.

Day 3

Day 3 witnessed Millie's exceptional swim in the 200m Butterfly, where she not only achieved a significant personal best of 20 seconds but also secured a place in the finals, ultimately finishing 5th. Also swimming in the morning were Logan McD, Ruben, Aaron and Allanah who all had great swims with some long course pbs.

This afternoon saw excellent 200m Backstroke swims from Kieran and Logan M with both boys smashing both their pbs and conversion times! Great swims and big pbs also today from Charlotte, Amy and Rebecca in the 400m Freestyle. Rebecca also had a great 200m Butterfly taking 10 seconds off her long course pb and narrowly missing the final.

Ethan continued his impressive form, qualifying for finals in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke, and achieving 4th and 5th place finishes, respectively. Logan M also shone, qualifying for the 200m Backstroke final.

Day 4

The penultimate day saw Millie, Allanah, Lucy, Aaron, Callum, Ruben, Logan McD, Logan M, Kieran, Rebecca, Sophie and Amy competing and another wave of outstanding performances and new personal bests from the Sharks. Ethan's silver medal win in the 100m Fly final added to his impressive tally. Aaron showcased his prowess in the 200m Freestyle, securing a spot in the final and finishing 9th. Millie continued to impress in the fly events, while Rebecca displayed resilience in the 800m Freestyle, securing 6th place. The team celebrated numerous personal bests across various events, highlighting their dedication and progress.

Day 5

As SNAGS drew to a close, the Sharks continued to shine. Competing on the final day were Logan McD, Ruben, Ethan, Aaron, Callum, Logan M, Allanah, Millie, Rebecca, Sophie, Amy and Charlotte with more excellent swims and PBs. Ethan's silver in the 50m Backstroke and 4th place in the 200m Individual Medley finals were noteworthy achievements. Allanah's 5th place in the 100m Breaststroke final added to the team's success. Rebecca's impressive swim in the 200m Freestyle final secured an 8th place finish. The 11-13 girls' 4x100m Medley relay team concluded the competition with a strong 4th place finish.

Overall Success

Bellshill Sharks ASC concluded SNAGS 2024 with a remarkable tally of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Additionally, the team secured 6 finalist spots across 18 events, achieving top 10 finishes in relays and non-final events. The squad's hard work and dedication were evident in the staggering 74 personal bests achieved throughout the championship, reaffirming their status as a force to be reckoned with in Scottish swimming.

As the curtains closed on SNAGS, Bellshill Sharks ASC the team demonstrated their commitment to excellence and showcased not only their individual talent but also their collective strength as a team on the national stage. With their eyes set on future competitions, Bellshill Sharks can reflect proudly on their achievements and look forward to future successes in the world of competitive swimming.
