Club Records Smashed at Bellshill Sharks Club Championships Heats Round 1
Bellshill Sharks Annual Club Championships - Heats Round 1
Wednesday 4th October 2023
Bellshill Sharks Club Championships Heats Round 1 took place on October 4th, 2023, at the Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex. This event was especially significant as it followed the positive news that our beloved pool would remain open, thanks to a reversal of North Lanarkshire's decision to close it, along with 38 other sports and leisure facilities.
A remarkable 78 swimmers, including some of our newest Sharks, took part in the backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly events. It was heartening to see many of our youngest swimmers take on the challenging 100m events with enthusiasm and determination, all with a smile on their faces.
This event marked an impressive achievement for our swimmers, as they collectively reached a total of 174 personal bests. Notably, three long-standing club records were broken during the competition. Ethan Collins, one of our outstanding young swimmers, achieved new club records in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, and 100m butterfly for boys aged 13-14. His remarkable achievements set new standards for aspiring swimmers to look up to.
Looking ahead, the finals for Round 1 Heats are scheduled for November 22nd, 2023. All finalists and reserves are encouraged to mark this date on their calendars and participate in this competitive event.
Round 2 of the heats will take place on November 8th, 2023 where all swimmers will be competing. The finals for this round will occur on November 29th, 2023, for both finalists and reserves. Events in round 2 will be freestyle and individual medley.
