Chen- Rees
Bingham vs Grantham - Notts League Monday 4th March
A brilliant squad performance, winning 15-10
Bingham fielded a squad with nice balance of experience and youth for this match, whilst Alex
Mootha recovers from a fractured hand following a freak training incident.
Quarter 1
An early goal from Joe Leveridge in the centre forward position with an assist from Tom Carrington
was quickly followed up from a ranging long quarter back style pass from keeper Gareth Chen-Rees
to Sam Leveridge to make it 2- 0. A quick reply from Grantham or 2-1 and the Tom Archer popped
up with a quick pass from John Musson to make it 3-1 followed by a shot from Joe Leveridge with 10
seconds to go to make the score 4 – 2..
Quarter 2
With the first attack and 25 seconds played Chen-Rees again fires a long pass to Sam Leveridge who
coverts, 5 - 2. A quick response from Grantham’s main goal threat all night and its 5-3, then
Bingham change gears. Archer & Musson 1 each and Sam Leveridge with another 2 and the quarter
ends 9-3. Three assists from Musson really made the difference in this quarter.
Quarter 3
Bingham continued to keep the pressure on and Grantham just couldn’t compete. The opportunity
for the younger squad members to gain vital experience now came, Bingham just kept on scoring.
Goals from Archer, S Leveridge & Carrington and with 2 from Betts made the score 14-5. Then in his
second senior start of the season Ben Curson drove through the middle to pick up a pass off a free
throw and shoots hard into the open goal. If VAR was available it would have been given, however
Water polo doesn’t have that luxury, Curson robbed of his first senior goal. Not to be out
performed, with 30 seconds to go George Hatch in his second senior game of his career pops up
clear on the left and fires a bounce shot over the keeper into the top left corner for his first senior
goal. 15 – 5
Quarter 4
Bingham had the opportunity to give vital pool time to everyone and made the conscious decision to
let people gain experience. The match was won and the final result was 15-10. A brilliant squad
performance!

Nottinghamshire league 2024
Bingham win first game of the season!
Home match: Bingham vs. Leander handicap match 22-18
Bingham went into the 2024 season with their first match against Leander in the HC Cup match, due to Bingham’s 3rd place finish in 2023 and the seeding system before a ball was thrown the score board read 8 – 11 to Leander. We were confused too!
This has been a hotly contested game in recent years and didn’t disappoint. Bingham showed the great work being done in the junior squads with the 4 U19’s in the squad.
Quarter 1
The first attack of the game saw a quick pass from Will Betts to John Musson and after 19 seconds Bingham closed the gap with a well taken centre forward goal 9-11. The next attack saw a quick break by Sam Leveridge and a long quarter back style pass from Bingham’s goal keeper Gareth Chen-Rees for a quick goal, 10- -11. Bingham defended well and recycled the ball quickly, another racking pass from Chen-Ress for Betts to finish strongly on the right wing, this was now 3 goals in under 3 minutes and the score was 11-11. Chen -Rees is a legend in goals but Mahomes could have competition with some of his passing!! Bingham seemed to take the foot off and relax allowing Leander who are a decent team to score 2 goals and the quarter ended 11-13.
Second Quarter.
Bingham needed to rally, Sam Leveridge to Archer 12-13. Musson to Joe Leveridge 13-13, Archer with a superb pass to S Leveridge 14-13. Bingham were on a role. Two further goals from Musson, and also Betts saw the score 16-13. Leander who are a decent team just couldn’t score and Bingham hit 5 unanswered goals. And the score now 16-13 and Bingham had pulled back the 3 goal handicap and extended a lead.
Third Quarter
Leander rallied, scoring 3 but this was matched by Bingham with goals from Bendelow from a quick pass on man up and a huge shot/lob in the top left corner leaving Young floundering. Further outstanding goals from Betts and a pass from Ben Courson to S Leveridge made this an end to quarter with quick breaks from both teams resulting in goals. 19-16
Fourth Quarter
The game was well poised, Bingham needed to stay composed and ensure that Leander didn’t score early, with S Leveridge spotting a quick dart from Tom Carrington Bingham hit 20 – 16 but Leander responded with a big shot off the arc, 20-17. This was tense. Bingham stayed calm and Carrington coming back off the bench after a well earned rest drove the wing and dropped the ball to Musson who finished past the flailing Young in the Leander goal. With the opportunity to get the U18’s in it was great to see Hatch drive the left wing and spot the open S Leveridge for him to finish powerfully in the left corner
The game finished 22 – 18 and Bingham progress to the next round looking strong after the winter break.
