It is not often that almost the whole swim team records at least one personal best time (PB) at a meet, but that is what happened with REN96 recently, when 28 out of the 29 REN96 swimmers competing at the South Ayrshire swim team’s ‘Sue McClure’ event achieved at least one PB. What a fantastic weekend of competitive, exciting and fun swimming for REN96 at Irvine’s Portal swimming pool, with personal bests, medals and first competitive swims galore! Meeting old rivals and friends from north and south Ayrshire, Kilmarnock, Stranraer, Bellshill, West Dumbartonshire, Bishopbriggs, Rutherglen, Glasgow and Renfrew spurred on REN96’s swimmers to perform superbly. REN96’s 2024/25 season started with a big splash when the club hosted its ‘Pentaqua’ meet at Linwood’s On-x swimming pool. In this unusual event format every swimmer who entered had to swim all 5 events, which included 100m individual medley, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle (for the youngest swimmers in the 7-8 year old group it was 25m butterfly, breast and freestyle) and it’s a great sign of the depth of talent at REN96 that they were able to field an impressive 69 swimmers for this great event....

Fresh from winning the Clyde Coast Mini-League the weekend before, REN96’s end of season, 2-day Development meet on home territory at the On-x in Linwood was always going to be busy and exciting - and it didn’t disappoint.
