Leatherhead Swimming Club Code of Conduct for Parents and Guardians

At Leatherhead Swimming Club, we want every swimmer to feel safe, supported and confident. Parents and guardians play a vital role in creating a positive club environment and we thank you for being part of our community.

This Code of Conduct applies to all parents and guardians of swimmers at LSC and operates alongside Swim England’s Wavepower Safeguarding Policy, which all members are required to follow.

Our Club Values

We ask all parents and guardians to support and promote the club values of Respect, Responsibility and Passion.

Expectations of Parents and Guardians

You are expected to:

    •    Ensure all consent, contact and medical details are completed and kept up to date on TeamUnify

    •    Make sure your child arrives on time, is collected promptly and is properly equipped for training and competitions

    •    Inform coaches in advance if your child will be late, collected early or leaving with another adult

    •    Maintain a positive, respectful relationship with coaches, officials, volunteers, swimmers and other parents

    •    Support your child to follow their Athlete Code of Conduct and coaching instructions

    •    Raise concerns calmly and appropriately, initially with the Welfare Officer where safeguarding is involved

    •    Allow coaches to work without interruption. Parents must not enter poolside unless invited or in an emergency

    •    Remain responsible for your child at galas unless alternative supervision has been agreed with coaching staff

    •    Refrain from negative comments about swimmers, coaches or clubs, including on social media

    •    Use club WhatsApp groups and social channels only for club-related communication

    •    Follow club rules on photography, safeguarding, alcohol, smoking and anti-doping

Your Rights as a Parent or Guardian

You have the right to:

    •    Know that your child is safeguarded and supported in line with Wavepower

    •    View club policies and procedures at any time

    •    Know who the Welfare Officer is and how to contact them

    •    Be informed of concerns relating to your child’s welfare or wellbeing

    •    Understand what happens in the event of an accident or injury

    •    Give or withhold consent for activities outside normal training

    •    Raise concerns or complaints and have them taken seriously

Working Together

If concerns arise, the club will address them promptly and respectfully. Repeated or serious breaches of this Code may result in further action, including suspension or removal from the club. This is always a last resort.

This Code of Conduct is aligned with Swim England’s Wavepower Safeguarding Policy (2025), which applies in full to all members, parents and guardians.
