Train to Compete Squad Criteria           

COACH/SWIMMER RATIO: 1:30

 

MINIMUM CRITERIA 

  • Attend minimum 3 training sessions a week regularly, school swimming maybe taken into consideration
  • Compete in a minimum of 3 competetions per year
  • Must show ability to work independantly
  • Good understanding of different training methods
  • Ability to follow sets and session plans
  • Show high levels of maturity in and around the poolside
  • Be able to swim all 4 strokes at a good level
  • Swimmers to compete at targeted meets specified by coach and all Arena league galas where selected.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop and improve stroke technique on all four strokes
  • Learn more complex stroke drill progressions for all the four strokes
  • Continue to develop competitive starts, turns and finishes on all four strokes and IM turns and relay takeovers
  • Independently monitor training by using a pace clock
  • Develop goal setting for training and competitions
  • Update, learn and understand competitive swimming rules
  • Develop stretching and core body strength work
  • Take responsibility for training equipment required at each training session (pull buoy, drink bottle and fins, goggles).

Disabled swimmers eligible for IPC Classification will be assessed in line with LTAD and coach discretion - where appropriate guidance from the London Regional Disability Coach will be sought.

All squad selections and criteria are at the discretion of the coaching team and are made in line with Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD). Swimmers who are dissatisfied with their squad selection will need to make an appointment with the Head Coach and Welfare Officer/Secretary to discuss the reasoning. Swimmers below the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
