Watford Swimming Club is run by a team of volunteers -- our volunteers are parents, guardians, grandparents, senior swimmers and even parents whose children have long left the club. The common factor is that they are all dedicated to support the Club to provide the opportunties for our swimmers to compete in the sport that they love. Without this support we really would not be able to call ourselves a club or operate as efficiently as we do.
If you are thinking of helping out in any way, we would be very interested in hearing from you, whether you can spare time to assist with gala duties or are willing to join our Committee or train to become an Official we would like to hear from you. It is our goal to provide support and training as required and assist with attending courses and qualifications if necessary.
We appreciate that everyone has busy lives, however please do speak to our Workforce Co-ordinator, Tracey Barnard, to have a chat to see how you might be able to help.
What can I do?
There are many roles that volunteers can help with.
Committee Members
At the AGM, held in February of each year, club members vote to elect the club management committee, which consists of the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and up to six committee members.
Technical Volunteers
- Coaches -- help our swimmers to become the best swimmers they can!
- Poolside Helpers -- support our coaches, especially with coaching the younger swimmers
- Swimming Officials -- train to be an official, perform a vital role and get to be poolside during the galas
Non-Technical Volunteers
- Gala - Recorders -- recording the times and running the computer system that manages our galas
- Gala - Runners -- be available to get paperwork from the gala referees to the recorders
- Gala - Door Money & Programme Sales -- running our front of house operations
- Gala - Marshall / Steward -- organising the swimmers as they queue up for their races
- Gala - Announcer -- are you a good public speaker? This could be a great role for you!
How do I get involved?
If you have an interest in a particular role you feel the club will benefit from please do not hesitate to speak to our Workforce Co-ordinator.
Please e-mail our Workforce Co-ordinator Tracey Barnard on [email protected]
How much can I do?
You can do as little or as much as you like. We are aware that everyone has busy lives and that time is precious and so you may be limited in what you can do. However, if everyone did a little it would make life easier for all those involved.
Please note that Committee positions are elected annually at the club’s AGM.
Will it cost me money?
Volunteering need cost you nothing but your time. If you want to take any teaching/coaching or official exams the club will reimburse you for the cost of the course (subject to approval).
Can I develop my skills?
We recognise that supporting our volunteers is essential, therefore we endeavour to develop individuals that are keen to progress by attending training courses or by being mentored to assist in this.
For information relating to courses/qualifications please contact the Workforce Co-ordinator.
We look forward to welcoming you to our team!
