Club Championships Special Awards
While Club Champs celebrates racing, times, and points, it’s also a chance to recognise the spirit, effort, and dedication that make Team Waveney so special.
Each year, at our Presentation Evening, we present a series of Special Awards that honour swimmers who have stood out for their improvement, attitude, and positive influence — both in and out of the pool.
These awards celebrate everything that Club Champs is about: progress, perseverance, and passion for the sport.
Open 200m & 400m Event Awards
The Open 200m and 400m events celebrate the fastest swimmers overall in the longer-distance races at the Club Championships.
These awards recognise pure speed, stamina, and determination — rewarding the top performers regardless of age group.
There are often a few surprises in these results! These events encourage swimmers to step up to a new challenge, test their endurance, and perhaps discover a hidden talent for distance swimming.
Whether you’re a sprinter trying something new or a swimmer who loves to pace out a race, the Open 200m and 400m events are a fantastic opportunity to push your limits and achieve something special.

These awards celebrate one boy and one girl from our Performance Squads (Squad 1, Squad 2, Senior, or Masters) who have shown significant improvement throughout the year.

The Cheryl Betts Cup
The Cheryl Betts Cup is a very special award within Team Waveney, given in memory of Cheryl Betts, a much-loved coach who was sadly lost to cancer.
Cheryl was a passionate swim teacher and coach who inspired a great number of young swimmers through our Academy programme.
She believed deeply in recognising and rewarding the efforts of young swimmers, and it’s in that same spirit that this award continues to be presented each year.
Cheryl is missed by many, and through this award, her legacy continues — inspiring the next generation of swimmers.
2025 Winner: To be announced on Friday 21st November 2025
The Boots Millett Claret Jug
This award recognises the time, energy, and dedication that both Martin Boots and Tim Millett invested over many years in developing swimming across our local clubs — Beccles Kingfishers, LOBSC, and Team Waveney.
The Boots Millett Claret Jug is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding commitment and contribution to Team Waveney — someone who embodies the club’s spirit and goes above and beyond to support our swimmers, coaches, and volunteers.
This award can be presented to any member of Team Waveney, including coaches, team managers, officials, swimmers, committee members, or volunteers, in recognition of their exceptional dedication and service.
2025 Winner: To be announced on Friday 21st November 2025
The Wooden Spoon Award
A fun and light-hearted award celebrating the moments, stories, and humour that make our club community so enjoyable.
The Wooden Spoon recognises those unforgettable (and often funny!) highlights that bring smiles and laughter to Team Waveney throughout the year.
2025 Winner: To be announced on Friday 21st November 2025
Club Records
In addition to the awards, Club Champs is also where swimmers can make history by setting new Club Championship Records.
These records are based on age group and event and can only be achieved at Club Championships.
To achieve a record, swimmers must beat the fastest time recorded in their age and event since the records began in 2023.
Club Record Certificates are awarded at the Presentation Evening to swimmers who set new records.
Best of the Best (BOB) Records combine results from both Waveney and Beccles clubs and recognise the fastest swimmers overall, regardless of age group or meet.
These can be achieved at any licensed event and showcase the absolute best performances across both legacy clubs and Team Waveney.
Masters Records are also being developed to celebrate the fantastic achievements of our Masters swimmers, representing Team Waveney in competition.
