County Championships 2024
The final weekend of the 2024 Championship was at the London Aquatic Centre on the 9th & 10th March. This weekend had our biggest number of entries, with 33 swimmers competing in 70 individual events. What a fantastic end to the Championship it was too. There were medals and finals galore.
Billy added to his medal haul with Gold in the 100m & 50m freestyle and Silver in the 100m butterfly. Blythe won Silver in the 17+ 100m butterfly and Ellie L won two Silvers in the age 16 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle to add to her Championship medals. We had lots of swimmers making finals too, well done to Aaron, Andrew, Blythe, Daisy, Ellie G, Ellie L, Fotios, Hannah, Lucas, Philip, Pheobe, Shekinah and Sophia. The club finished 13th on the medal table and 10th on the points table, as testament to the swimmers’ hard work and outstanding achievements.
Thanks to all the coaches for their support of the swimmers across the four weekends of the Championship, and to all our Team Managers. Thanks also go to our officials who had to endure the dreaded walk out at the LAC to the crowds of spectators and YouTube watchers. Mark had his moment of fame starting the Championships and waving to all the spectators as he was announced as Starter.
A celebration of all our swimmer’s success, the annual Kent Parade, was held on Monday 25th March at 6:30pm. Pictures are available on our web photo page https://uk.gomotionapp.com/team/oosc/page/photos
Tudor League Round Three 18th March
The third round of this years Tudor league saw the team once again competing at Beckenham Spa. What a fantastic night it was too, with the team securing a win. Special mention goes to the Abigail, Ben, Emilia, Emily, Faith, Fotios, Lucas and Shekinah who won the 14 & under cannon relay, each receiving a nice trophy for their efforts. We are now in a great position going into the penultimate round on the 13th April, currently we are in the lead on 23 League points with Erith a close second on 20.
Kent Junior League Round One 23rd March
On Saturday evening our team of younger swimmers, aged 13 and under, competed in the first round of this years KJL. This is a tough league as we are up against all the big clubs in the county, and in this round we were up against two of the biggest RTW Monson and Sevenoaks. The team had a fantastic night finishing in third place and are 14th overall in the virtual table and will be competing in Gala B for the next round. Well done team Ojays!
RTW Monson Regional Chaser 29th & 30th March
We took 28 swimmers to St Johns Leisure Centre in Royal Tunbridge Wells for Monson’s annual Regional Chaser. The weekend got off to a great start with Maria winning a Bronze medal in the first event the girls 400IM. The lower age category was tough with swimmers aged 10 – 12 competing in the same category, but with their usual grit and determination our swimmers gave us lots to be proud of, there were far too many Pb’s to mention and lots of medal too. The club came away with 11 Bronze, 15 Silver and 7 Gold medals (Lucas X3 and Lauren X4). Well done to everyone who competed, we are proud of you all.
And finally, congratulations to newly qualified officials Andrea and Jo who have both completed their J1 qualification, and to Chris who is a new Team Manager. We also welcome to the team Tim, Melanie and Yik-Yan as they start the J1 training. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to facilitate our swimmers at competitions.
