Kent Distance and EDSC Masters Gala
Kent Distance and EDSC Masters Gala
On Sunday 19th May a team of eleven Masters swimmers headed to Crook Log Leisure Centre for the Kent County Masters Distance Championship and EDSC sprints event. For some swimmers this was their first taste of competitive racing in a long time, and they had a truly fabulous weekend each swimmer coming home with at least one medal.
We can add seven master’s county champions to our role of honour. Samantha 200m Individual Medley & 200m Breaststroke, Kirsten 200m & 400m Freestyle, Matt 400m Freestyle, and Blythe 400m Freestyle. Ellie B won the bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley.
In the EDSC sprint events, gold medals went to Blythe 100m Butterfly & 100m freestyle, Samantha 100m breaststroke & 100m Individual Medley, Neal 100m Freestyle and James 50m Butterfly. Silver medals were won by Neal 50m Butterfly, Ellie B 50m Butterfly & 50m Backstroke, and Steve 50m Freestyle. Bronze medals went to Ellie B 100m Individual Medley, Chris 50m Freestyle and Tony 50m Freestyle & 100m Freestyle.
The medals continued in the relay events with our teams winning two gold medals in the 4x50m medley relays (combined age 100-119 & 160-199) and a bronze (120-159). Two further golds were won in the 4x50m freestyle relays (100-119 & 120-159) and a bronze (160-199).
But their success didn’t end there, no less than six county masters’ records were broken. Matt broke then men’s 35-39 400m freestyle record which has stood since 1999. Kirsten broke (400m freestyle), Blythe (400m freestyle in 4:32.27 a new club record, 100m freestyle & 100m Butterfly) and Samantha (200m Breaststroke & 200m IM). A huge congratulations to all our Masters swimmers!
