CLUB HISTORY
Southport Swimming Club is a small community swimming club with a rich and impressive history. This dates back to 1878 when the club was initially started by Holy Trinity Church in conjunction with the school. The local curate, the Rev. Staley, encouraged a group of boys to attend for tuition and they, plus senior men, formed the nucleaus of the club, giving a membership at the end of 1878 of 62 Juniors and 27 Seniors.
You can read a facinating account of the Clubs first 100 years history by D.F Scales (1878-1978) here.
As you can see from the Clubs History, Southport Swimming Club has created a wealth of competitive Swimmers who have reached the highest levels in the sport. This includes a World Record Holder, Olympic Games Competitors, European Games Competitors, English International Swimmers, Commonwealth Games Competitors, National Champions and Competitors, North West Regional Championships, Lancashire County Champions and Local Champions.
We are proud of what we have achieved as a small local community Swimming Club. And we will continue to aim big and create another 100 years of success and achievements.
